Extended Warranty - Assurant Solutions - Samples Posted

I am looking into an extended warranty from USAA, provided by Assurant Solutions on a 2008 M3 coupe I purchased today. Can anyone provide any feedback on Assurant Solutions?

Looks like they provide direct payment to the service providers with NO deductible or 'co-pay'. This looks like a solid warranty and I generally trust USAA (recommend them if you qualify - armed services requirement).

Thanks for the feedback-

Chief

The "BMW" extended warranties are actually through assurant. I haven't had to use mine yet so I can't give you any feedback.

I am not familiar with Assurant, but I am with USAA. I though they were great until a few years ago when I think, the arrival of the "30ish something MBAs" happened. Now they try to figure out how to gouge more money out of you and deny claims.

I and my family have been USAA customers for decades (insurance, banking, investment services) and have always received excellent service. That is one of the primary reasons I'm considering this warranty.

Anyone have a USAA Extended Warranty?

USAA is offering an extended warranty covering all systems and subsystems minus normal wear items (brake rotors, pads, tires, wipers, spark plugs, fluids). I'm waiting for the fine print to show up so that I can id any pitfalls. They are offering a 60 day cancellation (no charge) full refund and a prorated refund through the end of the warranty period. The warranty is transferable for a $40 fee.

I don't have the details in front of me, however they offered 4 plans of which I am looking at a 5 year 75,000 mile plan for $2,951. I do have a couple of follow up questions I need to ask, such as...is this from the end of the manufactures warranty period or from the date of purchase? How is the 75,000 miles measured (total vehicle miles or mileage from date of purchase)?

Sound like a good deal if it covers an additional 75k. Please let us know what you find out. Thanks.

I have to completely agree. The first 10 years I had them they were excellent, until I had 2 hit and runs on my car in a year. Claims were awful. The repair shop they sent me to forgot to align my car, and my 1 year old tires wore to the cords in a few months. USAA sided with the repair shop. I've also found much better deals on car and homeowners recently.

I assume you are referring to insurance? Last time a checked they were about the same price, did I miss out on a good deal somewhere?

Geico beat them by a good margin. And I don't remember my new homeowners, but USAA had raised my rates by over 10% 2 years in a row.

whatever you do, you'd better look over the terms in detail and see what it covers. If you can help it, try and get an exclusionary warranty.

Warranty services usually use ambiguous language that makes you think something is covered, where when it comes time to pay, it isn't.

I am with USAA, and looked into their extended warranty program. I didn't go for it, not because I thought it was bad, it wasn't offered for the state of Virginia where I live. So I didn't look at it in detail. So if you ever move to VA, then you might not be covered. This was back in 2010 perhaps things have changed.

Today I went through the USAA warranty and the Zurich Comprehensive warranty. They are very similar, excluding nearly identical items such as brakes, shocks, belts, hoses, clutch, light bulbs and all body panels and trim pieces - to name just a few. For me and the car I am purchasing ('08 E92 with 25k miles) the USAA warranty looks to be the winner.

USAA offered me 5 years or 75,000 (total) miles for $3000 (no deductible, includes rental and trip interruption).

The Zurich plan, also at 5 years or 75k miles is $4700 (no deductible, includes rental and trip interruption).

I'll scan the sample contracts I received and get them posted.

yeah that would be great if you can post the contract coverage details. $3k is good price compared to the others I have seen.

So to clarify, the coverage is up to 75K miles on the vehicle and up to 5 years from manufacture date? If that's the case then it's really just extending the 4/50 standard vehicle warranty for another year or up to 75K miles, whichever comes first? Hopefully I'm wrong and you're getting an additional 5 years of coverage but I don't see how that's possible.......

Here are the two Extended Vehicle Warranty Samples I received.

One is from USAA and the other from Zurich through a BMW Dealer.

The warranty period begins on the date of purchase and extends out through the term of the contract. In the example of 5 years or 75,000 miles, if I purchase the warranty in December 2011 the coverage period continues until December 2016 or 75,000 total miles on the vehicle, whichever occurs first.

That is not the extended warranty. It is simply the extended maintenance plan!

75k total miles not your milage + 75k miles
If your m3 has 40k miles now then it means you get 5 yr 35k miles
Whichever comes first

Anyone have experience with NAC for the extended warranty? I got a quote thru my CU for a 60 Mo / 85k miles for $2,475. This is from purchase date, so if car has 20k miles I will be covered till 2017 or 105k miles whichever comes first.. any thoughts? Thanks!
