...going nuts between 2 offers...help!?

People,
I found a 2008 E90 M3 from a dealer in New Jersey COMPLETELY loaded with options and with a sticker price of $69.500. It has park assist, shades, Premium, Weather and Tech packages, Ipod, extended novillo red fox, AW exterior, 19" s, sirius and Satellite radio...they offer it for $65,000 at 0.9% and also includes clear bra for free. This car has 37 miles
I live in Austin and my dealer found a car 3 hours way with similar options but with out park assist, weather package (but with heated fron seats), no sirius, no extended leather, no shades....from $65K to $61K. Also offered the clear bra...this car has 80 miles.
I am not sure what to do since my SA mentioned that the experience from buying a car through the dealer is going to make my future experience at service in general different?? At the end of the day the montlhy payments only vary by $60 bucks or so and the M3 in New Jersey has much more options, the thing is they are sending the docs for me to sign via Fedex, therefore I am buying the car before seeing it? I would also have to pay for the transportation...What to do, what to do?

I would get the local car for several reasons.

First, you'll be saving a decent amount of money, especially factoring in the transportation costs from Jersey. That's $4k plus taxes plus the $1,500 or so to ship it from Jersey, which is significant.

Second, the extra options on the Jersey M3 aren't important (except the Sirius, which you could have added later). Park Assist? You should be relying on your eyes and mirrors anyway. Not necessary. Cold Weather Package? You're still getting the only worthwhile part of that package, the heated seats. The headlamp washers are useless. Rear shade? Not a big deal. Extended leather? This is a personal preference, but I think Fox Red looks better without extended leather. Too much of the red inside looks a little over the top.

Third, you'll get the benefits of servicing your car at the same place you bought it. It's good to build a relationship with your dealer, and you'll get treated better, especially in terms of loaner vehicles.

I agree. Is there a webcam at BMW? J/K

There's gotta be some way to see the vehicle. If they want to make the sell, tell them to get creative and get you pics/video

I'd go with local also. I have all options listed on first car except Shades and wouldn't miss them, except heated seats (which you'd get).

Convenience of local dealership is nice. If you really want certain options, I'm sure dealer can find car and do trade for you, as long as you cover shipping. I'm sure they want to put another sale on their books, especially now, and you could get loaner and service there.

You can buy a car from anywhere and get it serviced anywhere as long as you treat the service advisor well. Your salesmen is a lier buddy

I agree you can buy and get a car serviced anywhere, but my local dealership stated they wouldn't give you a loaner if you didn't buy the car from them. They also have a sign that states this in service.

I don't know if they would provide you a loaner if you didn't buy from them, maybe they would if you made an issue of it. I have no idea.

I've purchased 4 cars from them and they have always treated me well there. I noticed other customers look at me a little funny when I get greeted by name either dropping off or picking up my car. They also get me in and out quickly with a BMW loaner. I place a value on this.

thanks for all the feedback. I guess at the end of the day I need to have a cool head and go with want I really want my car to be and forget about the trivial stuff....I'm stopping by my dealer in Austin again tomorrow and see if they can find me another car close to what I want. I just think I won't be able to buy a car worth so much with out even seeing it! ...unless of course someone in the NJ area stops by Morristown BMW and gives me some real comments !! that would be the ultimate benefit of this awesome forum haha

Post a request in the NE regional forum for someone to take some pictures of the car for you and look it over.

No need now! I decided for the local M3 ,which will arrive this MONDAY! I also was able to get into the deal clear bra, gap insurance and FULL carbon fiber interior trim. As soon as I have some pics will post them. Also, I think I like better when the car does not have the park assist sensors in the back bumber and was not crazy about the aluminum trim the car in new Jersey had. Most importantly, I get to see and inspect the car before I buy it.
Thanks for all the feedback!

This is insurance that will cover the gap between the "fair market value" the "regular" insurance company pays you and the amount of the loan left to be paid (if any)

They aren't obligated to loan you a car, but they usually will. If you have another local service center, I'm sure that one of them will lend you a car in order to get your business away from the other. If the nearest dealer is 50 miles away, you don't have much leverage. Most people don't realize that the majority of a dealer's profit, to an even greater degree since these free maintenance programs began, is generated in the service department. Selling new cars in the front is just the best way to get you to bring it in for service in the back.
