Retrofitting Brembo GT kit from another car
Hey guys,
There is a brembo GT kit that someone is selling that was originally on a Tahoe show truck. The kit is almost new and the owner is giving it to me dirt cheap. He just wants them gone. Now the question that I have is what will it take to retrofit it on my M3. Don't know if this is possible or even cost effective. So I wanted to see if I can get some answers here. I would imagine that all Brembo calipers are the same and so are the rotors. I'm thinking I would need the correct brackets for the caliper to fit the M3 and the correct hats for the rotors to match the bolt pattern. Do you guys have any ideas or experience doing this? |

There was a similar thread not too long ago where someone wanted to retrofit an e39 M5 Brembo kit. Richard (M-World) listed out the part numbers for the two Brembo kits and, IIRC, the M3 and M5 kits were not compatible.

My guess is that Brembo uses the same caliper cores for the BBK's, but put different piston sizes in them depending on application.

This is an incorrect assumption. To determine compatibility, you will need to know which specific caliper and rotor combination you are buying and compare its specs to the kit for the M3. Perhaps a vendor here will be kind enough to help you with that exercise if you can provide details of the caliper and rotor you are considering buying.

The calipers are definitely different. The piston sizes will likely cause incorrect bias (at the very least). The hats need to have the same bolt pattern as well as the correct offset. You most likely won't be able to source the correct brackets from Brembo 1) because they may not exist, abd 2) Brembo is generally not responsive to those sorts of requests.
There's just too many variables that could cause you to need different parts and, as I said above, Brembo isn't helpful with buying pieces from kits separately.

Brembo will not help you on this matter unfortunately Rob. They are highly against these kind of things.
