I always had this question in my mind...why people called cars women instead men?

I would guess that it's similar to christening a ship, and normally a woman is the sponsor. But that's not to say the ship has to have a female name. Breaking a bottle of wine against the body of a car, however, is not advisable, as the wine and its tannins are not good for the paint.
