Understeer is intentional. All factory suspensions can be improved, as can steering. BMW, even M, is never going to fit high-end bits. Case in point all brake systems. The CSL comment was just for entertainment. I wouldn't call it a serious race version, just M having showing what they could really do. Don't forget the E46 M3 GTR either. Your beloved V8 motor stuffed in a smaller chassis. Really the king of all M3s with all the normal creature comforts. That one I would take over a E30 M3

I'd so get that over the E92... Do you know how much they go for these days?

The automatic trunk opener on the 5-series is notorious for its lack of torque. I'm not sure though that I'd want an automatic trunk in an M3 if they chose to go forced induction to make it work. I like a high revving naturally aspirated opener.

I'll take 2 of those..845000+84500= 1million six hundred thousands then add the change 45000 + 45000 = 3million seventeen sixty then add taxes and deduct $35 dealer rebate and about $1700 reward points on my master card..Hay, i think I can do that

It's just an inexpensive baffle in the oil pan and can be retrofitted. You can also get a metal gasket enlarger that adds 1/2 quart, which dramatically decreases the potential. Very remote anyway and a street driven Porsche has nothing to be concerned about. Who wouldn't want an '09 and up, but you fail to realize Porsche simply evolves everything and rarely is an older model left out in the cold.

lol thanks. u got a lot of words of wisdom too. the oil starvation problem is magnified when tracked...or so i hear.

and the metal shavings problems that you may have heard...thats due to the ims, which you would have to replace if and when it goes bad. but the 09+ my (2nd generation) have the ims and rms designed out of the engine. they are almost bullet proof now and i dont forsee any of that changing any time soon. wish i could say the same for bmw and their future m turbo engines

true, but id personally would rather spend a lil more and just avoid the issue entirely. it simplifies life, which im all about. but thats just my .02.

If I spent P-car money for a new vehicle, I'd be bitterly disappointed if the thing failed on the track. Embarrassing. But very profitable.

Dont think that this is true on the 07 GT3...different system than the CS with real dry sumps. Thx though.

from what i rem, the gt3 does have an ims, it is just different from the 996 and 997.1 in that it does not go all the way through the block. they are not prone to the same failures...

but from what i rem, the gt3 experiences rms leaks too. not hard to fix, but its going to come out of your pocket everytime it fails

those ratings really don't apply or even consider cars that are tracked. Not saying porsche's aren't fine for the most part on the track, they are but a reliability survey is so weakly effected by those failures they can be considered negligible.

My 07 GT3 developed a small oil leak around 4k miles.Turned out to be the RMS.Was replaced with an updated seal and the problem did not come back.Sold the car around 15k,not sure if the new owner had issues after taking delivery.

Also had a coolant hose burst on the front mounted radiator under pressure and the car lost all fluid.Turned out that the fittings on the front hoses were not up to the task at the time. Not sure if Porsche fixed the problem, most likely they did.

The RMS was pretty much solved after the 06 lineup. I had a 07 997S and had not one issue ever go wrong with that car for the 3.5 yrs. I owned it.

As far as oil starvation that to me is a non issue as well. Go over to 6speedonline and see all the cars that are tracked with 05-08 997.1s. Ed over on 6speedonline probably has over 30k miles of hard track driving over there and his car has never had any issues.

I have yet to see a car that had an oil starvation issue at the track. As others have pointed out, you can update the oil pan with a 996 X51 baffle to the 997 cars and it would solve any issue that may arise. Although I personally know several cars like Eds on 6speed without the baffle and the cars run fine.
