Track Prep at Home or at Track?

Just curious what you guys do in regard to prep. I've done auto-x, but never been on the track. My closest tracks are 150 miles away. Considering the long drive to/from the track, do you guys recommend switching your brake pads/wheels at home or at the track?

I'm not epic enough to change pads yet, I just use the stock pads that my Brembo BBK came with. As for wheels, it's not like I'm using racing slicks, I'm using R-S3's, so yeah, I just change them at home and drive them up. Still street tires.

And yeah, I pretty much drive 150 miles to track as well, since I frequent Buttonwillow.

Also 80-150 mile drives to the track. I just change pads the weekend before and live with noisy brakes for the interim.

Are R-S3's the best performing (stickiest) track tire that can be used on the street?

I haven't gone through enough tires so I couldn't tell you from personal experience, but based off of feedback, the AD08's seem more popular.

i just swap my tires and brakes at the track. shouldn't take much time to do in the morning before the driver's meeting or your first session out.

Kids' booster seats removed at home. Nitto NT01s put on at track.

I do my track prep at home mostly involves stripping the car down and picking which set of wheels to use dry or wet. I run ad08s almost year round though and don't change pads yet.

I leave my track pads on all the time and just deal with the noise. I drive up on my stock 19 wheels and AD08 street/wet track tires. I load my Track wheels in the back seat and change them at the track.

Everything done ahead of time. Leave the race pads in (could care less about the noise, actually like it) and use ado8's so leave those on all summer. Thats why this car rocks soooo much, very little prep work. When you talk to other people at the track, taking out the loose stuff and going for a spin is a pretty unique situation, this car is pretty ready out of the box (minus a brake pad upgrade), plus I'm a mechanical idiot.
Love this car and the fact I don't need to change things up for the track, just drive an aggressive street set and your good.

What type of mileage do you get out of the AD08's when you mix street/track? Also, do they remain sticky even when they get close to the end of their useful life?

How do the AD08 street/track tires compare to track only tires? How do they compare to NT-01's (I'm sure the NT-01's will wear quicker then the AD08's if you try to run them on the street as well as the track)?

Not that they are track tires, but I was slipping all over the place on my PS2's at the last Auto-X. I still have about 5K miles of street time left, but their auto-x/track use is over.

This is my first set of ad08s so can't comment on how long they last yet but seem to be holding up really well. I ran my stock ps2s on the track twice and they get so greasy by the end of a session they are useless. The ad08s stick throughout the day and don't go away like that at all. With the lowish tread wear rating of 180 I expected them not to last very long but so far love them. Have another track day tomorrow on them temps will be cooler so should be a good day for tracking.

I have found the ad08's to be very durable. Both sets of fronts and rears were replaced due to pothole damage and a slow leak but still had tread left on both. Got about 15k and about 10 track days on the fronts, the rears closer to 20k and over 20 track days. These are very durable tires and are fantastic in double duty, however I do switch them out for the winter setup as they become a bit slick when temps start getting below 50. I'd love to try slicks at some point but am lazy and love just being able to leave these on and rock

I do the same thing (drive on my AD08 all summer long) and they seem to last forever. I did not have them for long enough on the street (less than 6 months) but on the track they last incomparably longer than PS2s lasted me. I am actually reconsidering trying RE-11 next because of AD08's long life. They do get noisy as they wear out and the ride is just a bit harsh.

i was gonna get re-11's as my winter/wet set on my stock wheels and ad08s for my summer track set.

depending on where you live, you may want to reconsider re-11's as a winter tire. if they're anything similar to the nt05's, they may not be the best rain/cold weather tire to use during the colder months. my experience was scary with the nt05's in heavy rain and tons of standing water.

the re-11s are supposed to have similar or better wet grip than the ps2s. it doesnt get too cold and dont have to deal with snow in western washington. i have an x5 if that happens anyway.
