Lowest mileage E90! well...sort of!
Long story short,
hydrolocked my engine after a long night of rainstorm about two months ago. Claimed through my insurance and immediately took it to the dealer. The minute I hydrlocked it, I knew it had to be dealt at the dealer, not at other auto shops. There were three options: rebuild (short block) engine, new engine, or total. I certainly didn't want to total this car. It wasn't like the car was submerged in water or submerged enough to touch the electrical system or other parts of the car. Water simply went into the lower air intake and engine failed during compression and leakdown test. Everything else was fine. Thankfully insurance reviewed my case and offered a new engine. Engine was ordered, built, and shipped from germany. After two months, the car is back. I've been driving around a lot, but this probably will be the lowest mileage engine E90! Car now has about 154 miles! engine before hydrolock... It was the best day when dealer let me know the engine just arrived from germany. Left on the picture is the old engine, right is the new engine with my exhaust on, the dealer had just begun to work on the new engine. Notice the back, there were three E30 M3s, one of them were being painted lime rock to match the E92 lime rock edition. The dealer is Dinan authorized dealer, lots of M cars around, they know what to do with M cars! Closeup of the new engine, attached my old exhaust etc...but changed all gaskets and sensors YES! it's back on! Back on the road! I was so excited i forgot about the twisted tow hook plate lol Car drives like new. I purchased the vehicle at about 17K mile on with CPO. It certainly feels new and different, they changed transmission fluid and diff fluid as well, man the 6MT feels like brand new! It's just great to be back on the road with my M! One quick question, I am planning a trip NJ <-> NC, it will have about 400 miles before the trip, and about 1700 miles after the trip. is it okay to wait until 1700~1800 miles for the 1200 mile service? I am not worried about diff oil (it was actually recently changed when the engine was installed), but worried about the engine oil, i'm hearing that BMW uses specific oil for 0~1200 mile on the car to "break-in", I don't know going over 400~500 miles will damage the new engine. It will be all highway miles.

what was the cost of the motor if you don't mind? and labor?
And you should be fine exceeding the break in period. IMO. Good to hear your back on the road enjoying the car! |
