Break in oil, what do you recommend!

I bought a new 2011 M3 two weeks back. I made a service appt. a few days later to remove the window tints the dealer had installed since there were some bubbles in the tint and they were limo dark.

The car had 230 miles when i took it in for service to remove the tints. Next day when i went to pick up the car, the SA advised me that they had done an oil change as well, removed the break in oil and replaced with regular. I was surprised and mentioned that the odometer told me 1000 miles to the change when i brought the car in.

Needless to say i could not do much, picked up the car and called BMW NA Customer Relations this morning. They were not very helpful either saying all i can do is file a complaint against the dealer.

What do you guys recommend, I have a call in to my local dealer who typically services my BMWs, should i insist on them putting the break in oil back in, is it even stocked? or should i just insist on another oil change at 1200 miles?

I was called as I passed 600 miles, by the dealer, to make my break in service appt. I said "But Im only at 600 miles".
I was informed by the dealer that there is a "window" they have to perform the "1200 mile" service.
Figure they'd know better than I would...so I took it in.

You will still have to bring your car for service on the 1K miles service. LSD fluid change and trans fluid change (for MT ONLY). Asked them to change the oil/filter also. No harm done anyway.

AFAIK, there is no "break-in oil". It is the same oil (10w60). Change again at around 1200miles. Since you're at only 230miles, there will be more possible metal shavings and it is good to get rid off them with an oil change.

+1. They may have unilaterally interfered with a very important process in the break-in of the car. Unless, others agree with the dealership that the break in service can be accomplished at any time. Get tough on them and see what they are willing to do. If you get resistance, lawyer up.

Really, no "Break in oil"? Guess that is not that bad then, I'll do another oil change at 1500 with the LSD and MT oil and worst case will just pay the stupid $100 for the oil change!

dealer oil change usually cost more than 100.... DIY oil change cost me 130 includes filter.

if thats the case... screw them and do the oil yourself but if you want them to do it. expect to pay close to 300.

and make sure this time ask them if you can watch them do the oil change. cause to be honest... some will say its done even though its not... those what i call shady dealer... sounds like they are...

just dont push the car until break in is actually done.

i pushed my car never launch or pass 5k after 3k. LOL i know i know... i actually have the patient to do it. LOL.... good luck.

My first M car, previous 330 and 335 were right around $100, guess have to pay for everything M

Yeah, never going back to the service bay of the dealer i bought the car from, I usually service from East Bay, know the service manager and never had any issues, will just take it to them.

yea good call... always bring your car to a place you know... build a good relationship with that dealer and like i do tip them... they will make everything life easier... I know I know tipping is an option but hey look at it this way.. the reason why they need all 10 on reviews accross the line cause they get a bonus, and plus they dont make much...

i always say if they help me whats 15-30 bucks tips and in return... you will have no problem with the service they will give you...

The problem is, M3 uses about 9 quarts of expensive oil...

This is correct. There is no break-in oil.

Excellent, then all i need to do is to make sure that they change the oil once more at 1200. Does someone have a detailed list as to what else needs to be done at 1200 miles?, it is a MT.

Engine oil, tansmission and differential fluid are all changed. They used to do the air cleaner, too, but don't think they do anymore. I'm sure they check for any codes, as well.

This is what they changed:
9 07-51-0-009-420 98 TWS Synthetic Oil
1 11-42-7-837-997 37 Set oil filter

3 83-22-2-282-583 08 Final Drive Gear Oil

So seems like they changed the Engine oil and the Manual Transmission oil or is that the LSD fluid?

Should i ask them to do it all over again at 1200 miles or just the Engine oil?

Never mind, i did a search and the second one is the Transmission fluid,
so two questions...
1) Is it important that the transmission fluid be changed again at 1200 miles?
2) Some body mentioned LSD fluids, is there anything i need to ask for here?

Thnx
