Why vote?

So the nominees are set, so I don't even feel there is a reason for me to even vote here in CA. I was planning on voting and wanted to but now feel like there is no reason to. It's so irritating that the results are in. The system should be changed where all the results from the earlier states are not revealed.

Don't get me wrong--I think it's an obligation that everyone should partake in, but when nothing matters, then what's the use? I know there are an army of CA haters so swing away. And if anyone has a good reason why I should go to the poll, let me know. Kind of bummed..even though it is one vote I always feel good about doing my part.

There are things besides the presidential nominee on the ballot. I won't get to vote on a primary since I register decline to state, but there will be other matters to vote.

To vote is a privilege and a duty. You just fucking vote!

Our system is different than yours so I vote in two elections every four years and once every six years. I get a lot by being a citizen and all that is asked from me is that I choose the people who decides stuff for me, and to pay taxes.

Our voting rate in all the elections is above 70% of the over 18 year olds.

I vote out of obligation, but i still maintain that if voting could actually change anything in this country, it would be illegal.

You use a med kit every day? What do you do? (If you don't mind.)

Ah. Nah, not as glamorous. I forgot you needed daily insulin. I had a friend whose dad did that - lots of work.

Ummmm, you'll miss your chance for your "I Voted" sticker.

But no I don't have a good reason. I always thought the whole "obligation" to vote was stupid anyway. If you don't like either of them, don't vote. However, there's also other stuff on there. Since you're in CA the other things on your ballot may look similar to mine. Questions like "Would you like to spend $90,000,000 in county funds to build a bus stop where the sidewalks can warm your feet via solar powered thing-a-ma-gigs in a section of the county you wouldn't be caught dead in once the sun goes down"? Those issues may be important to you.

I feel exactly the same. While I feel a responsibility to vote, I literally can't stand either nominee.

The voting booth is at the school where my son is and since I was there to pick him up I decided to go and vote. Nobody there. And the the check-in form with everybody who goes to that voting place was pretty empty as far as people showing up. Guess everyone else thought like me. What a boring ballot--just terrible.

I almost wrote in Jtodd-fl as a joke for presidential, but then thought he probably has a good chance..but.... he is twisted and hangs on skunk forums so that might not end up well for the country. So, I did my 10 second vote and went back outside to pick my son up. I did get my sticker.

The presidential nomination is just one of many things to vote on, at least in my county/state there were. However, most the positions i was voting for only had 1 person running. One day, I may go challenge the 90yo lady running for a public office just because I know i can outlast her. That way I can really stick it to the government by trolling e90post while on their dime; instead of contracting to the government and trolling e90post while on their nickel.

Edit: Forgot to add, if you dont vote, you cant bitch. And I love to bitch so thats why I vote.

WTF?! You better vote, or I will personally come over to your house and drag you on your face to your polling station. There are things more directly impactful to your life than voting for presidential nominees.

Since you're in San Mateo county I know there are a few things that'll directly impact YOUR pocketbook:

1. There are 6 local bonds/taxes totalling about $600M of taxes YOU will be on the hook for if it passes. https://ballotpedia.org/San_Mateo_Co...allot_measures
You can't bitch about local property and sales taxes if you don't vote.

2. Your county supervisor. Think future bond/tax proposals and idiotic non-binding resolutions giving criminals their official day after they're shot by the cops. (Go ahead and laugh, it actually happened here in SF).

3. State representative primary. Please do NOT vote for Jane Kim. At stake here are BILLONS of dollars of state income taxes this representative will be voting for.

4. US Senate Primary. CA only gets 2 senators to Congress. One is retiring. These positions come up once in a blue moon. At stake here are HUNDREDS of BILLONS of dollars of federal income taxes and policies this representative will be voting for.

That said, the democratic primary is still worth voting for. In CA, you don't have to be registered as a democrat to vote in this primary. While Clinton already won the minimum votes, Bernie's ability to "sway" the platform is still dependent on his turnout in CA.

I did give a "no" vote on that bond--I'm tired of my taxes going up by the minute yet nothing improves.

I don't understand the "go vote, because you have the right to vote" argument.

I am not going to vote for someone that I believe will be a horrible president, just because I have the right to vote.

I have just as much of a right not to vote, as I do to vote.
