You are wrong. The default settings for the car are the same whether it is ZTP or not. Either car can be set to Sport Throttle. But only the ZTP car has Sport Plus Throttle, Sport Steering, and MDM DSC mode.

Understood. So a car w/out the Tech Package cannot access Sports Plus Throttle, Sport Steering, and MDM DSC. So if you are not going to track the car it really doesn't matter- if it's a daily driver. Hell, I'm still going to get the Tech package anyway...

Thanks
got mine yesterday, TSP is the best value for the money. I had Nav going while tinkering with iPods songs, switching M-mode settings. The ZSP made my 500 mile drive home from PCD fun and quick

That is highly subjective and depends on the individual. That's why the OP should just test drive instead of trying to make a decision based on others opinions.

Tech package does NOT have any kind of effect on the steering ratio. That is fixed for the M3, and not variable. It does change the level of power assist though.

Thanks for everyone's inputs. I will just have to test drive both cars. The non M Technology car MSRP at $58k, all the M-Tech equipped ones
MSRP $66k or higher and they have way more goodies than I wanted.

I will try to find one with premium and M-Tech package only if that's the route.

Thanks again.

The power button and settings are not key dependent. At least they aren't on my car. You can set the defaults in idrive however.

You are correct, they have the same performance stats. There is just no intermediate setting for throttle response and traction control, they are either full on or full off.

The thing is a non ZTP car won't have IDrive, so it sounds like there's no way to assign a Power setting to each key in that case.

They should have (and could have) implemented MDrive profiles that you could setup, save and then assign to the M button or either key as you saw fit. Maybe next time. There are persistent rumors of BMW working with Apple for future iDrive design, so hopefully useability becomes a major focus in the future.
Yes, this is a big mistake from the perspective of people like you and I, but the clueless guy who shows up at the dealership looking for a car to impress chicks on the way to the grocery store probably doesn't care, and likes the idea of a "transformation button".

When are you getting your car man? I see that you became a general. You need one of these new beasts with that rank!

Visited another dealer today in North County San Diego and they are selling the M3s at invoice. So this opens up more options for me. Definitely will be getting the Technology Package if I can put this whole deal together.

no tech = no CA, no NAV, no idrive and edc is included - why not get it - I have NO regrets - and I am a reformed -idrive hater. I love it.
