2011 Mustang GT 400hp Vs 335I

Lets just say that all the rumors are true and that the 400hp motor is indeed coming out into the Mustang. In a real world scenario a 335i with a jb3, or v3 can keep up with a stock GT500(I know this because I've witnessed it about 8 times ). So whats to say this new motor in the GT will even come close to a 335i? If the 335 can hang with a gt500 who to say this new GT will be even remotely close... I am personally selling my 328 and driving a beater for a few months then deciding which of these cars i want. So let the debate begin

We need to stop comparing highly modded N54s to STOCK cars. How many guys with a GT500 that race it don't swap pulleys and make 600whp?

I'm sure after a year there will be all sorts of supercharger, turbo, cam options for the new 5L mustang engine.

If you are talking about straight line speed, then the mustang (30k+-) is always going to have an edge, and the engine will be easier to work on than anything from BMW. Not to mention no fuel pump problems....

If your talking about on a track, even a 335i with full suspension and engine mods cant keep up with an M3 around a track....

If you want a performance car, get the GT. If you want to overpay for a status car, get the 335i.
WOW, what crawled up your a$$.

As the OP mentioned, high hp newer body stangs are notoriously slow.

OP, i would guess a decently modded 335 (jb3/v3 and exhaust) would put some car lengths on the 400hp mustang.

I hate the 335i mentality. One chip and your car is invincible. Far from it.

I love BMW's, hate how a lot of the people who own them feel about them. This comparison, and the way the OP brought it up, is a great example.
i wasn't talking about you lol this "debate" will end ugly just like other comparison threads on this site.

Alright listen up all you little angry hearted MOFO'S . I was simply asking the opinion of forum members that in real world driving how do you think the cars would weigh out vs each other. I obviously like both so don't come off with your NAIVE statements GatorSchmuck, that I'm just another over privileged over zealous happy BMW owner. That's really not the case at all. I would never spend 50k on a 335i , my plan was to assume someones lease whose desperate, or finance one that is being GIVEN away.

Well the debate is really about what car i should purchase lol . But I'm also interested in best all around car IF they both could be had for the same price. I don't really go street racing , nor do i ever go to tracks. So i guess the debate could also be about which will be a funner daily driver. We can only speculate so much though being the new 5.0 isn't out yet

Car and Driver did mention something about the massive power and amazing handling of the new Mustang - Matching lap times of the new M3. I think it could be an amazing car for the money.

If you're looking for a DD then none of those track times, 1/4, etc matter at all because that's not what you're going to be doing. It just depends on personal preference. Do you like the BMW badge? if so get the 335i, if you like the american muscle type get the stang. Not really hard if it's a DD lol just w/e you like to look at, like driving. Me personally, I love the 335i. It's a great DD, fun to drive, has that punch and can be easily modded for relatively cheap. Is it a track car, no. Is it a beastly 1/4 car? No. Was it meant to be? No.

Yeah I tend to like American muscle more then say euro engineering but after driving a Freinds jb3 335i the other day I was really suprised by the power. It had strong pull thru every gear and was peppy enough for daily street driving. Overall it just seems like a car that I would have a Lot of fun in , i guess it's just a matter of driving the new 5.0 when it comes out.

Yup, it's all about the fun factor so definately get the 335i if that's what you like. The instant torque and hard pulling feeling does it for me every single time so I'm a happy camper + the exhaust note is sexxxxxxxyyy

Where do you get information like this from?

I out drive bmw club instructors in their E90/2 m3's with my E30 m3 that has no engine mods.

If we are talking about daily drivers...I give thumbs up to both I'm a fan of the 335i's dual personality but a bigger fan of the domestic v8 grunt...the 335i motor is really torquey and fast but it just doesn't have a soul to me...it feels like an electric motor, which means it has a flat torque curve which is also a good characteristic

Your obviously good driving skills have nothing to do with the comparison. Given equal drivers, the M3 will be faster than the 335i.

The 2010 Mustang GT with Track Pack already puts up similar performance numbers as the 335 in acceleration, braking, lateral g's, etc. Add another 85 hp to that and it won't even be close stock vs. stock. That being said, they are very different cars. Both are good-looking cars in their own right. Both will make good daily drivers. It's really just a matter of choosing whether you want American Muscle or German Engineering.

Well, that and the price.

If you like sliding out on corners and a shitty plastic interior then go for the Mustang.

Yes, but the mustang will still be faster in both a straight line and on a road course, so if performance is you main desire the Mustang is the better car. If comfort is more of a concern then the 335i will be the better choice.

Wait, what is the definition of the "ultimate driving machine" again?

The E90 is 4 years old, by the time the 2011 Mustang GT comes out it will be 5 years old, and the next gen 3 series will only be like 2 years away.

So the next gen 3 series will probably be a fairer performance comparison vs the 2011 Mustang GT
