You actually can drive your frozen car how you want, and break in your BMW how you want aswell, I say that as someone who's worked at a high end body shop dealing with matte cars, and worked for a racing team with breaking in engines.
I own a late 2010 Frozen Gray E92 and i second that! The paint job is really easy to maintain. It doesn't show any water mark, making it very easy to wash and dry. This color is a stunner and has to be seen to believe. I have strangers chatting me up asking about the color and taking pics of my car. I never expected such level of attention.

The only down side is what was mentioned about bird droppings. I have yet to experience any on the body work, but will surely keep a watchful eye for it.

Great news if it pans out.

At this point though, I am actually more interested to learn about the upcoming "Special Edition" cars coming to the US later this year. Actually, I could see them offering Frozen Black as part of these packages, or perhaps a brand new Frozen color (Frozen MCB please ).

Top Gear is a (awesome) comedy show. The maintenance requirements for matte paint are the same as for normal paint, besides not putting products that enhance gloss onto it. Don't be fooled by BMW's legalese about how to care for the paint. Bird shit, bugs etc will ruin normal paint, and if you thought it was ridiculous that the test driver got out of the car to clean the paint in the middle of a lap on Top Gear, then you'll be suprised to know that high end supercar owners can subscribe to a service where someone will actually rush to their supercar in a van with a full cleaning crew as quickly as possible to remove bird shit at a moment's notice. I got my information first hand by being a professional at a high end business that built multiple SEMA cars. The color doesn't matter any more than gloss paint, matte paint is matte paint. Actually one of the huge benefits of matte paint is that the color matters less than with gloss colors, people dislike caring for gloss black paint because you have to constantly deal with the miscropic scratches in the gloss finish, because they show more easily than any other color, not so with matte black. It might be slightly harder to physically remove something from matte paint due to the texture but overall it's definitly less work to care for, and it won't be like removing something caked onto cement, it's still a basically smooth surface.

Just to clarify - this would be increased availability from BMW Individual, not increased availability in general. In other words, Individual might give the thumbs up on a few Frozen Gray M3's sometime in the near future.

True, it will ruffle feathers, although anyone who thought the car was truly that special did no research. Although the mixed-color interior was not available ad-hoc at the time, the paint was available everywhere else in the world from Individual to anyone willing to pay up. Plus, the FG SE cars were $79k if I recall, and they were optioned up with just about everything. So the price is the same as a loaded M3 with Individual paint anyway, and as I recall it original buyers also got a one day M school as part of the deal too.

My guess is that at most BMW USA will approve a dozen or so more FG cars over the next few years so the rarity isn't going to be effected much.

Lucky you! There was a Monte Carlo blue m3 asking for 97k at our local dealership last year. And a frozen grey asking almost 110k just last month and was sold. @

can someone that has or touched the frozen bmw paint please confirm that the texture of the car is smooth just like all cars?
I have no idea but I cant believe that the paint is textured? isnt the frozen paint the same under coating with a sheen top coat or something?
