6mt clutch connection point too high?
Does anyone else feel the clutch connection point is too high for the 6mt.
Mine is at the very top of the clutch stroke and it bugs the hell out of me as it makes it difficult to make smooth gear changes both up and down. Has anyone had this adjusted to connect lower within the clutch stroke? This and the seat position height on the driver's side are the two most disappointing things with this car. Feels soooo family sedan like. |

I don't care too much about the seating position, as it is close to where I would want it (I'm 5'5), but I certainly agree that the clutch engagement/connection point seems quite high up. I actually moved my seat back a bit more than I'm used to and that has helped smooth out my shifts quite a bit.
Perhaps the clutch spring removal mod would help?

if you feel the clutch engagement point is too high, all you got to do is not press the clutch pedal fully in when shifting

That's how a clutch should be on a proper performance car.

The 1st 90% of stroke nothing happens and then it connects...............IMHO to late, and doesn`t feel right. I don`t have trouble to make smooth gear changes, but the whole cluth involvement is not realy the way I like it. It is also very light ( in comparrison with the clutch off the E46 M3), I do like the car, but the clutch is realy disapointing to me................................. Actualy it is difficult to get a right seating position, due to the high connection point of the clutch. Not to engage the clutch fully is off course no option at all, it does wear the clutch .............................. |

When I push in the clutch, I already know the last 25% of it is BS, so once you know that, then the clutch doesn't feel long at all.

I guess it is just a preference thing and I get your point of faster shifts but
it is just the whole clutch stroke is too long and if you could adjust the connection point closer to the floor it would just make things a whole lot easier and faster shifts for everyone IMHO. When you get going and are moving quickly, or slowing down quickly, I think it is natural to step on the clutch hard and fast and not just tap the first 10% of the stroke because I'm sure there are other things to worry about like that corner or car right ahead of you that is coming at you REALLY fast. Great info though and I appreciate your opinions. Is there any one out there that has actually adjusted the clutch to connect closer to the floor? |

its identical as my viper. maybe not as smooth as the BMW, but its high. i was told by a tech the reason why it is that way (besides obvious shifting advantages), it makes daily driving somewhat more enjoyable. a powerful car that engages clutch immediately is very difficult to drive, especially in a traffic environemnt. it gives you proper playroom to adjust movement of car in a slow moving environment (traffic, parking etc.)
this should be an "issue" only in first gear really (if you can even call it an issue). everything after that, i actually prefer it. |

The engagement point is very nice to me, but what PISSES ME OFF is the pedal is too high. I want it 1" lower. I have to prop my leg up higher on the left than on the right. Maybe that's because my right foot is usually on the floor, but still.
