What were the times and the trap speeds of the 2 cars for this race?
It does seem odd that the M3 pulled on the V that hard especially after the V finally hooked.
Also, a 650hp V is pretty minor bolt ons.

There was a 700hp V Coupe at my track last year that couldn't break out of the 12's cause it couldn't hook for shit even with DR's.

I would guess that the V has a re-calibrated TCM and possibly a higher stall converter. If it doesn't then it is leaving alot on the table. The 6L90 isn't bad once it is tweaked.

It almost looked surreal the way the M pulled away.......... I understand the M is lighter, but the way it distanced itself was amazing!!!!

The CTS-V comes with supercharged V8 stock, and M3 comes with N/A V8 stock.

When you slap a supercharger on M3 of course it will kill the supercharged CTS-V, no matter how you tweak the supercharger on the stock CTS-V.

Stock for stock, CTS-V spanked M3, M5 and MB AMG.
Well wasn't that a Hennessy ctsv? Meaning it has something beyond the stock motor?

Weight wise id agree, a better comparison would be an m5 with equal Hp. 3er is one size class smaller than the ctsv.

I can tell you right now that hennessey is absolute garbage, he lies about all of his ratings as the caddy forums have caught him lying a few times. Considering this was a VF650 kit i expected that beating, trap speeds will tell a better story too...but the caddy is only making at best 500-510whp so comparable?....not so much as the M3 has way more whp. If the VF650 wants a comparable race then he should run a D3 car. My V has a 2.9L whipple, valvetrain, and cam right now putting down almost 700whp running rich to redline. the race would be the other way around if i ran that. But the VF650 is impressing me alot....wonder if its faster than the ESS 650

The Hp figures are rather close with a small edge to the M3.

You're spot on with the transmission statement. Faster shifts equal faster times. No getting around that.

Finally the weight differential is huge. The CTSV is 460lbs heavier than the M3. Getting off the line with that kind of weight and then pushing it down the track is that much harder.

One thing that isn't mentioned (except maybe in terms of appearance) is the drag coefficient. If I'm not mistaken the M3 is a couple tenths better than the CTSV in that area - thus improving straight line performance on the drag strip. Hopefully someone with more experience would comment on Drag Coefficient with regards to straight line racing like this.

The CTSV coupe has ugly proportions out back - the CTSV sedan looks much better. The M3 looks even better still.

Totally agree, but to me the best CTSV is the wagon! What is more badass than that?

Drag really does not come into play till about 100mph. Also, a re-calibrated 6L90 transmission shifts are pretty crisp and quick. It isn't like the caddy is shifting like a dump truck. The V would also have a huge torque advantage over the M. It is hard to tell but it sounds like the V got a horrible launch. I would like to know the trap speeds.

Finally someone brought that up. People think Hennessey and they automatically think back to the big HP numbers that take up full page ads in car mags. They're the last people I'd take my car to.

As some of the more intelligent people in this thread have noted, the only way an E92 M3 can hang with a CTS-V is to slap a supercharger on it, not to mention all the other requisite mods to support it. CTS-V comes from the factory ready to dominate M3s, C63s, E60 M5s. I don't even take interest when I see M3s anymore, simply too slow. Anyone who discounts the CTS-V simply because it is a Cadillac or because it is an American car is pretty obviously insecure, or a brand whore. Hey haters, try growing a hairy pair and learning to appreciate all cars. Then again, I know it can be threatening when a car with a 556 horsepower supercharged LSA, and Magnetorheological shocks outperforms yours so drastically, all the while costing less

Actually a DCT with bolt ons can hang with a stock CTS-V, 1/4 mile results and 60-130 times prove that. I also ran a friends stock CTS-V in my DCT M3 with just bolt on's and it was very close. Nice kill for the VF650 though, a Henessey V700 CTS-V went 8 flat 60-130, I'm sure they can go faster, but those results are not terribly surprising.
