Matte carbon center console?

Saw this center console at the HRE open house yesterday in a Space Gray E92 with a wide body kit. (Nice car, whoever owns it!)

I did a double take because it looks like carbon leather. I assumed it's a wrap since I didn't think a carbon leather center console was available, but I thought I would ask. If anyone could make one I assume iND could.

I am particularly interested in this because (1) I think it looks great and (2) my center console is a little scratched up. I personally think it's a nice alternative to the gloss/wet carbon interior bits (which are a little too glossy for my taste).

I believe IND does leather wrapping for the center console as well as custom paint jobs. I may be painting some interior bits soon since the rubber coating is starting to rub off in some areas.

That would match up pretty good with my carbon leather trim!

Definitely not OEM (especially on a 6MT on OP's pic) ... It looks like a wrap to me ... I've seen the same treatment performed on peeling steering wheel trims too ...

Like nicebraces said, most likely a wrap since it's a 6MT. However, if you have a DCT, you can order an authentic CF piece from iND - http://ind-distribution.com/ind/cate...-interior-trim. Select to add the OEM GTS center console, then select the frozen clear coat option. The link for the individual OEM GTS center console does not give you the frozen clear option, although I'm sure iND could make it happen if you didn't want the rest of the trim.

I think this looks awesome but I would probably want to save some $$ and wrap myself. Is removing the center console piece a PITA?

OP, you can just get some matte 3M carbon dinoc wrap that matches our CF OEM trim pretty well and DIY... if its not too much of a pain to remove that piece

I would keep the OEM leather wrapped console cover over a fake carbon wrap. I like the real carbon version which is only available for DCT but I'm not into wraps.... Just my opinion.

It was nice meeting you at the HRE open house!

IF you had a leather console, but the OEM is just that sh1tty covering like all the other plastic bits that gets scratched and will eventually peel.

Mine was leather on both my '08 E90 6-speed and my '13 E92 DCT. I'm not aware of any crappy plastic covering on a M3 center console.

It looks like a wrap.

Also important to note that matte carbon doesn't mean dry carbon. 99% of CF you see on street driven cars is all wet carbon regardless of finish.

Are you talking about this?

If so, I'm not interested. For one, I think it looks funky unless you replace all the rest of the trim with the same CF. IMO, that would be a little too flashy for me, not to mention it looks very prone to scratches and whatnot.

I am looking for something that will match the OEM carbon leather trim.

Now that sounds awesome. Off to call iND.

I would agree, except that (1) mine doesn't look like leather, more like rubber; and (2) whatever it is, it was gouged (with keys?) by the previous owner. It's really the only flaw in the interior.

It was good seeing you, too, buddy. I'm sorry that I didn't get a chance to check out your car. We'll have to meet up at a Cars and Coffee soon.

I generally like to DIM as well. I don't think it's too much of a bear to remove that piece. I have zero wrapping experience, but am willing to give it a go if I can't get something from iND. If my wrap sucks, I could always take it to a professional.

Thanks for that. I've always assumed "dry" was matte and "wet" was gloss; shows what I know. How would you describe the OEM carbon leather on an M3?

Ask Matt at oCarbon. They can do just about anything, and they do have experience with the E9x platform.

My center console has a couple marks in it as well and I thought about wrapping it like I did my steering wheel. I might do it to see how it looks since it's relatively easy to remove.
