Now you see it now you don't The Ugly Airbag Warning

PLEASE DISREGARD The paper glue METHOD. THE GLUE DID NOT WORK THAT GOOD .....

Go directly to POST 18 below .... I've used Carpet Tape and the task is now completed

I don't know about you, the airbag warning sticker somehow distracts my view it just does not go with the nice interior of our car. So in a few simple steps I've done something to overcome this annoyance. After all how difficult is it to tell the few personages we take along "This car is equipped with air bags"

1) Went to the local art store they carry high quality coloured paper. Purchased one sheet of BLACK total cost $1.12 with tax.

2) Got hold of the needed tools, a Scissors, a ruler and some high quality glue.

3) measured the sticker surface then cut the paper just about 1 centimeter (3/8 inch) wider and longer then the sticker.

4) applyed the glue all over on the backside of the paper, placed it over the sticker and gently rubbed the paper till it healed firmly in position.

5) Took some photos with my iPhone to share this simple task with you

As I said Now you see it now you don't.

My comment had nothing to do with the way it looks - I think you did a great job However, if you can pickup Euro visors then it will give it the perfect OEM look!

I recall reading somewhere on this forum that you can remove the sticker from the visor.

I used GooGone on mine. Uninstall the visors, apply GooGone, let it sit a couple minutes, scrub with a rag, add more GooGone, scrub some more, and more. Then use soap and water to clean; reinstall.

Thanks for the tip, I think I will try this first on our DD ... looks like the paper, glue and visor material do not get along too well it kind of shrinks and does not look that good.

Just a comment to others, I've done this primarely since I am 6 foot and from the corner of my eyes the sign does irritate me.

I will remove the paper clean it up and try the Go Gone Product.

Looks like yours should be even easier than mine. My visors were the same material as the headliner. Newer models have the vinyl visors.

I've decided to go another route to accomplish the task and it works like a charm.

In Canada as some have pointed out it is the law to have the warning sticker during the safety inspection. I hate to be denied driving my car just because the airbag sticker is missing.

So to accomplish this task I used the same black paper from the art shop and cut out the paper size then used double sided carpet tape (sticky on both sides) and set the black paper onto the first sticky side then cut the rest of the sticky carpet tape. Once done I peeled the protective paper from the second sticky side of the carpet tape and installed it over the airbag warning label.

Having used the tape I can if I have to peel it off easily any time if the need should arise.

Photos are self explanatory anyway here are my steps taken;-
  • A cut the black art paper to size a bit larger then the warning sticker. In my case this was 6.5 cm x 13 cm (for both my cars).
  • Cut two suitable lenghts of the double sided carpet tape (protective paper of the tape down on the workbench).
  • Carefully set the the black art paper onto the first strip of carpet tape.
  • Cut another suitable carpet tape strip length and set onto the still ecposed black paper onto the second strip of carpet tape.
  • Now cut all the excess carpet tape from around the edges (tip cut gently into the black paper about 1/32" to ensure you will be left with no tape showing along the edges).
  • Gently remove the backing from the second sticky side of the carpet tape and align the black art paper with the warning sticker and install by rubbiing the backside. And you are done.

So now if you have to the black art paper can easily be peealed back off if you need to pass a safety inspection or should your car be leased and you plan to return it.

Now it is not a perfect colour match (paper to visor material) still better then the label I am sure you agree. I've taken these steps since I am tall and my eyes do wander to the label and it did bother me. As you can see from the last 2 photos it is a perfect fit (i.e no buckling or lifting from the previous glue method I used).
