Pessimistic about aftermarket products

I will be receiving my new E92 m3 (AW/FR/19s...ofcourse ) and I had a question about should I install any after market products in my car such as the GruppeM intake and the eisenmann exhaust. Will these products have a defect on the car?, will they shorten or hurt the health and life of the vehicle?. And also one more thing, is it easy to install a new grill, for ex. the carbon fiber one, on the car? Do i need a pro or can I do it myself. I dont need to remove anything major to do so do I?...thanx dudes::

Quick answer: yes you can buy and install it yourself or get a pro to do it. But for me, I will just enjoy the car in stock form until the excitement is gone, then that is the time to think about after market. Some people will do it as soon as they got the car. There is nothing wrong with that. It is how you enjoy it.

a cat back exhaust shouldn't void your warranty and shouldn't damage the car. not sure about the intake, though generally these are not cosidered a high risk mod so long as the install is correct and you're not letting anything get into the engine. not sure how the perf is affected with the Gruppe M intake. I'm a bit skeptical personally, though with CF I'd imagine the air would at least be cooler.

thanx guys....but i still would like to kno if the stock grill can be easily removed...do i need to remove alot of things under the hood to do so?..becuz i have the grill now..and thats the first thing i want to put on

Stock grills (front ones) are easy to remove.

Simply remove the 3 or so Torx bolts on the top trim strip, then pull the top out a bit so you can slide your hand behind the grills. Then, push in the tabs to release them from the surrond. Install...just pop in grills and make sure tabs lock onto the surrond. Replace Torx bolts..done!

I am sure it has no effect on longetivity....

I too wanted to get an exhaust and an ecu....

but it seems the exhaust gives you no gain in hp.. or weight gain it actualy weighs a few punds more... yes it sounds better then stock... also the stock intake is pretty darn good why get an intake.... i think its all waste of money...

only thing i am getting will be the ecu... that seems to give 10-20hp...

At some point I'll be getting an exhaust. I like the tone of the stock exhaust at high rpm, but wish it were a bit louder at lower rpm.

Maybe they don't mind mind now. Lets just hope that is still the case if something goes wrong. They may change their postion very quickly at that point.

I think you should hook your car up with a few mods like you want. Your thinking about it so just do the damn thing and hook it up with a few aftermarket mods. You don't have to go all out and get crazy with mods before you even get the car, people like myself that have been waiting over a year and counting for their M3 . Just look at my Signature below knuff said on that . If you like the Plain Jane factory look, leave your M3 alone either way you can't go wrong.

Honestly, only time will tell how aftermarket mods will effect the life the car and the way the car behaves over the long run.

I modded my E36 very early in the life of the car and I can honestly say that I believe some of the issues I am having with her are related to long term usage of aftermarket products that have had an adverse effect on the car over time. Things as simple as a firmer suspension that causes more stress on the chasis of the car and just about every nut and bolt holding her together.

As far as an aftermarket COLD AIR INTAKE, I have one on my zhp, and the dealer never gave me hard time-Don't see don't tell policy. As long as it doesn't interfere with the Air mass sensor. Actually, CAI can help the motor breath easier, and cooler air will generate more horsepower-we are not talking about 60 hp just like what some of these aftermarket tuners claim- and better fuel economy.
The exhaust will definitely be lighter than stock.
I would be happy with an intake, exhaust, and maybe an aftermarket software that can some good Bhp. The car is fast as is.

IMHO The GruppeM intake should be installed only for cosmetic reasons. I highly doubt GruppeM can out engineer BMW when it comes to an intake.

I seriously doubt any dealer is going to give you a hard time about an aftermarket exhaust ( just make sure to get one from a company that actually puts some money into R&D, since some of these aftermarket exhausts can actually reduce the cars performance )
