Are aftermarket warranties any good?

I'm thinking about buying an M3 that is near the end of its manufacturers warranty. I am also applying for a loan through PenFed, and they're offering an extended warranty for $33 per month. Is that warranty good, does anyone have any experiences with this? Please share!

I went with the BMW one, but other members have had good luck with the aftermarket ones. Try doing a search.

The warranties offered by credit unions are usually quite good. Find out which warranty company they work with and Google for information/customer feedback.

I just found out the PenFed warranty doesn't cover the clutch, which should pretty much be a dealbreaker than right?

The clutch is a normal wear item. Any friction item that will require replacement after wear is considered maintenance, not repair, like a brake pad or tire. No warranty out there will cover a clutch, just as it's not covered by the original warranty.

No warranty will cover a clutch. However, if you get a DCT, which is a sealed transmission you can get coverage on that

You know you want the DCT...

I just wanted to bump one of these threads because I had my first EasyCare claim on my ///M this week.

When I went to United BMW on Saturday to have my awesomely cheap ZCP wheels installed they found a nail in my brand new PS2 rear tire. It was right on the sidewall and was not able to be patched/plugged.

After reluctantly shelling out $480 to the dealer for a new tire I told the service manager I would be coming there from now on because I liked the service better than the other Atlanta BMW dealers. I let him know that my car had just fallen out of factory warranty but I had purchased an EasyCare extended package. He tells me I should contact EasyCare Monday to see if the tire is covered as it should be with 'Totalcare'.

I called Monday and started a claim on the tire. I just had to fax in a copy of the bill w/ what happened to the tire and how much tread depth was left. I got a notification this morning that I'm being refunded $502 because that's the retail price they have on the tire. So I'm pretty impressed as this covers almost 20% of the original warranty fee.

Thanks for the info - I'm considering EasyCare to extend my warranty.

What length of coverage (miles and time) did you purchase?

That is most likely because with the M-DCT the computer is controlling your clutch. In the M-6T the user is controlling the clutch. The assumption is that the computer is less likely to burn the clutch every 3,000 miles.

My warranty expired with 35000 miles on the car. I purchased the EasyCare package a week before and it's good for 3yr or up to 85,000 miles. I'll never hit either of those.
