Valve Cover Leak!?

I had the gasket on my oil cap give out and it sprayed about a 1 1/4 liters of oil all over my engine which i find out is more common here then one would think. So after cleaning the motor and replacing the oil every time i take it out i see this when i open the hood! It appears the it is weeping form the threads not the gasket! Help and advice appreciated this looks like a big repair. I have the after market extended warranty offered by BMW. If this happen to the cover what about the engine internals!

so are you leaking from the valve cover bolt or the oil cap???
It looks like the leak is at the cover bolt.

The valve cover has the leak under the bolts. Replacing the gasket this week it must have been compromised when it was covered in oil spray when original oil cap seal gave out earlier this week.

I would check to see if the bolts are torqued to spec.

It could be oil from when your oil cap leaked, Use some degreaser and see if it comes back.

I doubt it. It looks like mine but cleaner. I have leaks in the bolt area and the paint is bubbling up on the valve cover as well ..so i'm planning to take the cover off and repaint. I'll do this the next time I change plugs. I may repaint the cover red.

That was my first though but wiped it down with degreaser 3 or more times and keeps coming back (engine bay was spotless before all this). I just hope my coil packs and plugs are not saturated in oil just did the plugs less than 3k miles ago

Car is going to dealership this coming monday since i have 3rd party extended warranty gonna try to get new plugs under it.

Car is at dealership now was told valve cover gasket is covered under extended warranty ($600 plus job- that's just the passenger side that needs replacing )
However the cleaning of under panels and motor WILL NOT be covered ($200)

Have gasket on order, I know the plugs to a hit there was oil everywhere!
Waiting till they go about replacing gasket to see the extent of the mess on the under side of the plenum. Hoping they will be covered as well just put em in last Fall.

Just spray a bunch of engine cleaner in the engine bay and hose her down. Don't pay $200 for that. LOL

I got my oil cap replaced twice. once they replaced with a "new and impreved" one for no reason. then i started having the leak issue. so i asked them to put one similar to the older cap. this one works fine. just tell the dealer to give you one. I think they changed them after my2010, i heard less issues with my2010 and earlier

Common e9x problem. The gaskets weep and it has nothing to do with the fact that the oil cap leaked prior.
