Don't you get the lifetime M mobility kit with the M3? That won't cover the tire? Is the wheel and tire insurance worth it?

I think they quoted me $750 or $1100 today, but it's only good at the original dealership. I told them to pound sand, I didn't want to give them another dime. It does sound worth it though, from what I have been reading here.

if youre getting aftermarket rims then the insurance will not cover you so only buy it if youre very sure youre keeping the car stock.

Alot of the dealer protection offers are pretty much a waste of money but the wheel insurance is Not! I just bought my E90 M3 and got the wheel insurance for ~ $1100 for 5 years coverage and the dealer threw in the dent/scratch plan for free. I have the wheel insurance on my RR Sport SC and I will tell you it is well worth the price. I have already used it twice for road rash and the wheels stay looking like new. Now that the wife is driving the RR I will be using it more! lol... If you have to replace one wheel it will cost you more then the insurance.

Another thing that might interest people...the insurance is matched to the car's vin # so it covers any wheels on the car. I specifically asked this question and the dealer told me it will cover any wheel I have on it. That definitely sold it for me since, like many on here, I am planning to put aftermarket wheels/tires on soon .

It's worth it. I wish I bought it with the car. PS2 tires are extremely expensive. I have had two non-repairable damage from nails or screws in my first year of ownership. I had to pay out of pocket for all three =(. When I bought my new PS2 tires from NTB, I made sure to get the tire insurance. It was only about $40 per tire and is good for a year. Well worth it.

IMO totally not worth it.
1. Learn to dodge pot holes, greatly reducing the likelihood of new tires. Nails are harder to avoid.

2. Tread depth, the fine print rapes you on this.

3. Specific tire, also rapes you on this.

4. You have to buy it from the dealer, also rapes you on this.

5. Not a guarantee of replacement, up to the dealer to decide, as is with any warranty item.

Unless your aftermarket wheels and tires have the EXACT same measurements as the OEM wheels and tires, the insurance will NOT cover you. It's in the fine print.

So if you were planning on putting bigger/smaller/wider wheels on your car, you just got ripped off.

not true. yes it's in the fine print but it's also dependent on the insurance company dealership goes with. the insurance is not with bmw, it's a 3rd party insurance.

my wheel tire insurance will cover ANY size aftermarket wheel and tires on the m3, even if i have 20s. it's stated clearly in the policy, and i have called their office to verify. you just need to make sure what you are getting

1) that's what insurance are for right? it's like saying if you drive careful enough, don't even bother with comprehensive insurance

2) 3/32, rape? don't think so

3) untrue. they will replace with the exact same tire you have on the wheel, if needed. so if you have ps2, then you get ps2

4) i don't know about others, but i am paying 15 bucks a month for wheel/tire insurance. that's 540 bucks over 3 yrs. how much do 2 ps2 tires cost again?

When I was buying my car, they told me only OEM wheels/OEM tires are covered, anything else is not. Like I said before, its largely dependent on the dealer.

1. Yea but I've had my E46 for 80k miles, never a flat or defective tire.
2. A lot of the time, its up to the dealer.
3. You do you you can only get PS2s that the M3 comes with, from the dealer? They are not available at Tirerack etc.
4. Again, you've heard of horror stories from dealers, same applies to tires except they are even less willing as AFAIK its the dealership that sells the insurance, not BMW NA

Really? but I was told that any BMW dealership will accept it since it's insured by BMWNA not just the dealership itself. Anyone else would like to clarify this?

On my last car (650 vert) the insurance was independent. I had to use it for a nail in a RFT by the sidewall and it was a painless process. The dealership just put a new tire on the car and filed all the paperwork for me.

When I picked up my 2011 M3 they had transitioned to a newly offered BMW wheel and tire insurance. I say new, but it's three years since I bought a car. Not that much different, but work at any BMW dealership should be hassle free. It's attached to the car in the computer system. Sadly, it's getting more and more expensive (think $1300) but in the DC area potholes could easily cost you one or two 19 in wheels in 5 years. Just replacing one is a break even proposition.

worth it for me, paid about $ 600 last year, just replaced PS2 tire, free to me, total cost would have been $525, so with 3 years of coverage left, looks like a good deal. Plus covered for wheel damage and dents in body work.

I would take anything my dealership says with a grain of salt, most incompetent people I have ever dealt with.

It's definitely worth it. It was about $500 when I bought it and I've already replaced two of my PS2s from nails.

really sux, i have been driving for 15 years and i have never been to one accident. wasted so much money on my comprehensive.

again that's what insurance are for. i have already got 3 ps2 on my e93 replaced at dealership due to stupid nails. every bill was over 500. i feel very good

I paid $485 and I can use it at any dealership. It covers the wheels and tires.

I turned it down. They wanted $1200 on a three year lease. I talked them to a grand and perhaps could have gotten them lower, but didn't bother. I have the cash, so I will take my chances.

Thing that bothered me was that I specifically asked whether the wheel coverage would include "bends or curb rash", etc. He read the contract and said that wheels would be replaced "only if the bead would not seal and the tire wouldn't hold air". So if I bend a rim which results in a steering wheel shimmy on the highway, I'm shit outta luck with the particular policy they were offering (as long as the tire holds air)...

I asked them to uncouple the tire/wheel protection and reduce the cost but they wouldn't. I bet that tire claims FAR outnumber wheel claims, so a "tire only" plan at half the price would be a money loser.

for me it wasn't worth it. i was faced with the same dilemma and came up with the conclusion on wheels. the tires are really not even in the picture since the tread depth has a lot of factors. so for me, i had a chance to get oem 19's with brand new ps2 tires for 2k. tires alone are $1400-1600 so basically the wheels cost me $400. when my lease is up, my oem 18's are brand new no scuff and i could sell the oem for more than $400. it was a no brainer for me. better off getting another set of rims yourself (which you can resell).
