Engine Question

Hello All,

I have a 2011.5 E92 and have noticed something a little different about the engine and just wondering if it is normal.

When I start it (not cold start, or first start of the day-usually after it has warmed up but then sat for a while) the rpm's kinda jump around from about 500-700. It also has that sound too of the engine revving up and down.
Just wondering if this is normal. Temp is about 150-170 when it happens.

Thanks

Hahaha!
I never had experienced such a thing. When I start my car (cold start) it is around 1200 RPM and after 30 seconds it goes down to around 700 ish. When is is warm, it starts right away from 700 - 900 RPM range.

Mine almost stalls

Mine is 08 and it does the same; first it jumps to 1200 which in normal then it goes down to 600 or 700 but suddenly it drops as if it will stall then it goes up again. It doesn't matter if it is cold or not as long as the car is turned off for an hour or more...I don't think this is normal but the dealer thinks it is...Any idea what is wrong?

Just air pump warms up the cats. If you think that's an issue for you, you can have your dealer checked the air pump sensor.

Not normal, it shouldn't jump. It should progressly lower as it warms.

Sounds like a faulty idle control valve or something else going on..

I guess it depends on your idea of jump. If it divebombs as if it's going to stall, then maybe there is an issue. If it gradually goes down after a bit, then it is probably normal.

Mine seems to just gradual move down from around 1200-ish on a cold start.
