Nov 2013 - Anyone on their winters already?

Debating on whether I should get them on this weekend. Temps haven't really fallen yet and are routinely above 50, but on the other hand there's a chance a storm may roll in next week. Thoughts anyone?

I am getting my new winter tires mounted on the stock rims today. Will hibernate the HREs until Spring this weekend probably.

Yep, I like my winter set-up look because they are OEM Gunmetals, was missing it actually so I changed it up early! I forgot how comfortable this car is with 18s and 40 series tires.

Generally wait until temps are consistently below 40 or Thanksgiving weekend, whichever comes first. If we have a freak snowstorm in the meantime, I'll leave the M3 in the garage and take the Volvo.

Put Your Winters On

Do it. Do it now. I also wanted to squeak a few more weeks on summers out just in case there was another nice day and part laziness as well. A few brisk nights ago, I was driving home when ambient temperatures displayed on my dash were 27 fahrenheit. I was on a freshly repaved road which was extraordinarily slick and had lots of dips/ pot holes. It was also rainy and damp out. I had only gone around the block so my tires were ice cold when a large fox (common in my area) jumped in front of my car. I was doing about 40 mph, maybe 45, swerved and had I had virtually no control over my ado8s, 265/35 front 295/30 rear. I went off the road a few feet not just into soft dirt but then small trees. I may have traded one animals life for another Car is at MAC auto right now, we will see.. there does appear to be some frame damage.

Sorry to hear, those pics show a lot of damage. This is the same worry I had as the dealer had my car until last night and wanted to keep it another night. I said, I need to get it home before the snow.

Now I need to swap the winter hopefully on Thursday if the weather is ok.

Wow - sorry...

I have to agree. My winters went on last week. It isnt really the snow that I worry about but the temps. Once it dips in to the 40s summer tires are pretty much useless. No reason to risk it.

I was driving the other day with the temps dropping into the 20s and when I went around the corner the ass end of my car just kicked out because there was no grip, the tires just slid. Fortunately no one else was next to me and I was able to safely correct it, but it certainly gave me a scare and right now I will only drive with the full DSC on and still I see the traction light coming on even when accelerating in a straight line when I drive my car due to it being cold.

I'm putting my winters on this week after I wake up from the inevitable food coma on Thanksgiving.

Just installed studded snow tires on my Escalade yesterday. Looks like balls but I should be good up to 3 - 4 feet now.

I mounted up this past weekend. The back end was getting squirrely, especially on early morning/late night drives. Nothing says "Bad Ass M3" like 18" Sport Edition A7s.
