Two 1/4 Mile Videos from 29JAN12
My wife was kind enough to take some videos of me running at Fayetteville Motorsports Park today. I rolled up with my 19" ZCP wheels wearing Continental ContiSportContact 5P, 255F/285R. Took my air gauge and pump but ended up not messing with the tire pressure at all. The track was wide open and I did 7 runs in a row before the line started building up. So, after the 7th run, pulled over, ate a hot dog with the wife and went home. The car started the day with 1/2 tank of gas, left the track with just over 1/4 tank, filled up at the gas station on the way home and still averaged 16.4 mpg on that tank. Full interior, nothing messed with, just as the car would be daily driven. The other guys there were taking off headlights and putting drag radials on and I was still beating them with my little naturally aspirated V8.
Settings are as follows except for one of the run when I forgot to hit the M button and ran with full traction control on... M-DCT - S5 EDC - Sport Traction Control - M Dynamic Mode Throttle - Sports Plus Launch Control - Did not use LC, see 2nd light on tree light up, take foot off brakes and hit gas. Mods are listed in my Garage and the rest of the video can be seen in my youtube channel if you click on the Videos link under my sig. Enjoy Here are the best 2 runs of the day: Time slip for Run #5 Last edited by armyav8tor; 01-31-2012 at 06:40 PM.. Reason: Added time slip |

Awesome!!! Just one question: have you considered an Akra Evo specific tune?

Thanks, I've been holding off on a tune because I've been trying to convince the wife about SC'ing the M3. I didn't even mention anything about SC'ing today, she's like, you're going to SC your M3 and smoke all these fools... LOL I'm sure she was joking but I'm going to hold her to it. Right now, VF is looking very good. Hopefully, I'll be SC'd before this year is over.

great vids and the M3 out of the box is superb. Awesome 12 sec runs!
Before you SC, you should read this thread (if you haven't), it's sort of risky, but maybe you're willing to take the risk... Around page 32 - 35 there a bit of truth telling on what you have risk and why FI/SC kits are risky... http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=636991 |

As far as the SC goes, I am aware of the risks and if it blows, it blows. The OP to that thread you linked is local here and I've heard nothing but good things about his shop. It is unfortunate that his engine blew but that is why I was straying away from the AA SC. I don't think meth is a good solution. My buddy has a VF SC'd e46 M3 and his engine is still running strong. Anyway, I'll scan my slips in a few days so you guys can laugh at my 60' times. No playing with tire pressure = no traction. |

I'll give that a shot next time. I really just wanted to make sure my motor was running strong and I would say that it is running pretty good. The MPH was what I was really after and I was pretty surprised to see 116. When I ran in Alabama, I only managed 110 but that was when I only had the MS filter and AA Pulley. Not to mention the track temperature was 110 that day.

Thanks, I'm on "cheap ass" Eibach springs. The car rides really good on them. I'll report back on the track performance when I hit VIR next month. I'm going to need to catch a ride in a Dinan car to compare but right now, I think the guys that spent the money on the S1 suspension is just trying to justify their purchase. |

Have you tried with M Dynamic Mode? It felt horrible when I did that run with DSC ON. In M Dynamic Mode, I didn't even feel it kick in other than at the start.

The ZCP with my tires are heavy. I don't know exactly how much they weigh but just from switching out my 220s with the 359s I can definitely feel the difference. Most of that may be tire weight though, which is not good for rotational mass but oh well, at least I'm putting down more rubber. The track is located just on the other side of I95 from the Fayettenam Regional Airport. Quote:
Yeah, they are doing this every Sunday thru February from noon till 1700. 10 bucks get you in. Watch out for the hotdogs though, they didn't settle well with me.... The place is kinda redneckish but they are nice people. |

Nice runs. Your 60ft should drop if you put your EDC into Comfort Mode. Soften up the suspension a bit to allow some weight transfer to your rear wheels to give you better traction.

I loved driving the Nurburgring in Germany. I had no prior track experience before going on the Ring but I did memorize the track and have driven it thousands of times in my head. Heck, I'm driving it right now. I only wished my camera wasn't such a POS and I captured some of my faster laps. Thanks! You're right, I should have put it into Comfort Mode. It'll probably be a while before I take the M3 to the 1/4 mile track again but next time... Traction Control OFF, rear tires to ~22 psi, EDC to Comfort. |
