Biggest sizes that fit or biggest sizes that fit AND provide good performance? Your performance gain is diminished if you install a tire that's too wide for the rim.

I wouldn't go wider than 275 mm on the 9.5" rear wheel and 255mm on the 8.5" front wheel. There are people who have gone wider but I don't recommend it. Some autocross rules limit wheel sizing so I have seen some auto-crossers run very wide tires on OEM wheels.

I've used 295/30 and 315/30 on OEM siZed wheels. It all depends on the application

A few have run the 285/35 on the rear. I would go with that along with 255/40 front, if i was bent on sticking with OEM wheels. Or a 275/40. Not as many good tires available in that size though

Richbot is the person I had in mind when I stated that some Auto-crosser's run super wide tires on OEM wheels.

I would choose 255/40/18 front and 275/40/18 rear tires but.... as Rich said, there aren't many tires available in that size. Due to the tire availability limitations I would personnally stick with OEM sizes and choose Michelin PSS for street use or, if you want something wider with more grip, then I would go with Yokohama AD08R's. The AD08's will look at least one size wider because they run very wide and square. That would actually be a great option in OEM sizes. The Bridgestone RE11 and Hankook RS3's are also available in OEM sizes. I would choose the AD08R's given those options but be prepared for a shorter tire life.

Just curious, what brand tires did you use? Thanks for the insight guys!

i have a semi slick 235/40 and 265/35 , the actual section width is much wider with a semi slick. They sit how a road tyre of 245 and 285 widths would do.... heres my 260 oem 18" albeit on a different platform.

Wider is not better, as others have said. You can't really have it both ways: as you go wider, the performance benefits shrink and steering feel goes way down, especially for a street-driven car.

My advice is to stick with the stock size or maybe go 10mm wider front and back. BMW selected that particular wheel & tire setup for a reason (i.e. they test it extensively).

If you really really want wider tires, buy new wheels that are wider. The 359M/ZCP wheels are wider and can take beefier tires. Most of us run 255/275 on those for a nicely-squared sidewall.

I plan to run 275/35 on my square setup of 219M wheels for what it's worth.

I was greedy and went with 265/30-19 and 275/30-19 on my 220m. While not 18's the widths are the same.
I think I should have stuck with the stock sizes instead.
I did give up a bit of steering response but not enough to lose performance . i am quicker with these vs michelin pss on autox course for sure. Ad08r have very stiff sidewalls. Im sure that is the only reason I get away with it.

Well for me I want to get the Michelin A/S 3's for colder weather and for OEM 18's you have to go up a size for the rears to 275/40ZR18 because they don't sell it in 265/40ZR18, go figure. Assuming should also bump up the fronts to 255 as well.

They shouldn't rub, no. The set up is similar to the 359 wheels with 255/275 (aspect ratio adjusted for 19" wheels). It won't rub.
