If you are going to compare a loaded M3 to a base Maserati and claim they are close in price you can make a similar argument for a loaded 335i compared to a base M3 or for that matter a loaded Accord compared to a base 328i.

If you check of all of the options on a Maserati GTS the car will hit $140,000 which is about $60,000 more than a loaded M3.

The closest you are going to get them price wise is to compare a fully loaded M3 ($80,000) to a base Maserati ($118,000) and there is still close to a $40,000 difference.

We can argue all day long about which is the better car but they are not close to each other in price in the USA and are probably rarely cross shopped.

There's not enough performance in the MGT to charge that kind of money, and the 'niceness' is not better enough to charge that kind of money.
You're paying for exclusivity. The privilege of having a more rare car.

Ask yourself how much that's worth to you.
If nominal uniqueness matters a lot, then the MGT has the M3 beat.
Otherwise, I think the M3 and MGT are not far apart.

Since the MGT you're talking about is used, and in the ballpark price of an M3, we're no longer talking about 'overpaying a bunch' for whatever reason.

If money is not a concern and you can only have one car, I would get the Maser.
The feel of exotic luxury sport in the Maser is not something M3 can replicate. The sound of the V8 (especially in the S model is just intoxicating). It's like a F430 in a business suit.

However, M3 is faster both straight and, of course, turns.. a better overall car.

Just saw a maserati gran turismo and decided to park next to it. When I came out of the store so did it's owner. He came out of a tan salon and was wearing a Hawaii shirt with flip flops and looked completely homosexual or metrosexual. I got in my X5M and waited for him to get out first. He saw some bystanders looking at his car and sped up in possibly first gear creating an immense sound. At the stop light I completely blew him away with both my X5M's speed and sound. But yea, maserati drivers are posers.

I am frequently in a Maserati GT, and the M3 is so much the better daily driver, it's not even close. Ride, comfort, handling, reliability, maintenance all go to the M3. The Maser is fast, but so is the M3. Lastly, it's not a matter of cost, rather keeping your sanity. Also, in Houston, the Maserati service people are pricks, on a good day.

Thx! It's a 2006 Ducati Sport Classic 1000. It was in the movie "Tron" ridden by the main character. As sweet as it looks, it almost took my life a couple times because of the famous reliability of Italian machines, which perfectly fits the comparison between an M3 and a Maser. Lol!

If someone handed me keys to either an M3 or a Maser GT, I'd take the Maser without batting an eye. I'd be 100% happy with you being fractions of a second faster in a straightline or being slightly more capable around a track--I'm in a goddamn Granturismo.

Calling people out as 'posers' for driving a GT is ignorant. How the hell do you know what the driver's like? What if it's his second or third car? What if he takes the thing out to track days or goes carving up backroads on the weekends? You don't know, so you shouldn't make assumptions. They make you sound like an idiot.
