Question about Installation

I purchased the OEM front splitters for my 09 M3, and I noticed that on page 17 of the instructions, it mentions screwing in three screws to secure the splitter. Here's the problem, only 2 of the screws mentioned are touching the front bumper (the other is lower than the bumper, too far from the mounting hole) and of those 2, only one has a pre-existing screw hole.

I highly doubt these splitters were made with the intent of screwing into the bumper where there was no pre-existing hole, but if necessary I would do it. Is that what they intended? Currently I only have one screw and the adhesive holding the splitters in place, is that even safe?

Any ideas?

I just got the splitters from your site so thank you.

One quick question. Do you really have to roughen the paint up where the splitters are glued? I was hoping to be able to remove the splitters later on w/o having to repaint the bumper.

You dont have to glue the splitters, just use some 3M Tape and some screws and your perfectly good to go.

Thanks. I purchased the oem adhesive kit. What type of 3M tape do I use? Is this available at places like Kragen?

I have not looked at these splitters personally but I would point out that e90 and e92 bumpers are attached with different screw patterns, so the extra screw may not apply to your fitment. I can't imagine it matters anyway. The glue/tape at the top edge bears the brunt of the shear force.

yeah same screw issue
I bought -black rubber sealant
it will not be prone to coming off with water and temp changes
it will be easy to get off the paint later if I have to replace one or take them off in general

I bought foam spungy tape "I think weather stripping - will need to check" to go around the washer that snugs up on the carbon fiber of the screw provided.

I need to drill holes in the bumper that I am not happy about!

will keep you updated on how everything turnes out on my e90

Why black rubber sealant you ask....because that tape comes off after a few months plus it also raises the splitter
