Why no fog light on the new M3's?
I was wondering why didn't the new M3's come with fog lights.

I think it's because the design feeds air into the engine compartment for engine and brake cooling. You'll probably get a more technical answer from other forum members.

I think BMW made the best out of it. The M5 did need as much air inducts as possible so it came without. From then on no M car had fog lights (kinda M recognition feature). IMO both Z4 M and M3 could have fog lights and still would get enough air to feed the airbox.
Best regards, south

I don't think fog lights are necessary... I've had them on numerous vehicles and they never help you see better in the fog. I guess they look cool when you see the car head on at night, but that's about the only purpose I have seen them actually serve.

The fogs on my E39 M5 broke constantly. I was glad to see that I wouldn't be lightening my wallet every quarter on M3 fogs...

Open question......
Does the E92 M3 even have brake ducts? From what I recall when I saw an E92 up on the rack, all of the front end air is engine / radiator intake? Kindly, |

yeah it doesn't bother me that there is no front fog lights. Never used it much in the E46.

It's very dissapointing that I can't drive around on a perfectly clear night with my fog lights on for no good reason other than to look cool and irritate my fellow idiot American citizens.

Fog lights are over rated. They're something you really want, then once you have 'em it's like they're not event there.

Foglights were cool back in 1990. In my 5 series one of the bulbs burn out rapidly and I refuse to spend a penny to fix up a relatively useless feature, although it did look cool with just the angel eyes.

Foglights are for posers -- I would never see them on foggy days but plenty of people leave them on at all times.

Hey guys, I'm new here and have just bought my first M3. A lovely 2008 girl with manual transmixer with reasonable miles and in great shape. I've been a car nut all my life, but this is my first bimmer. Now as for the fog light thing, fog lights DO serve a purpose. Having come from an area which can have some really nasty fog, I have added fog lights to the majority of my vehicles which didn't come with them. The overall theory is that fog never reaches all the way to the ground. Fog lights properly placed (as low as you can mount them) and aimed properly can light up the road surface below the fog. As pointed out earlier, you don't use them all the time and they must be aimed correctly. Also, a proper setup will allow the fog lights to work WITHOUT the headlights.
