Smile Trailer Hitch and Tire trailer question

I searched and found nothing only an old 2008 thread that said there was no hitch available for the e92.

Im selling my dedicated track car and trailer so the m3 will be my track/weekend toy. Im thinking of putting in a bolt in roll bar, harnesses and seats so carrying track gear will be an issue when i do this. I know some e36 and e46 carry their gear to the track with a small tire trailer and room to put tools as well but i have never seen an e92 or e90 m3 with this setup. All i have seen for e9x's are tires mounted on a roof rack. Anybody rocking a tow hitch and tire trailer in the m3? If yes what brand are you running and how hard was the hitch install?

For those of you with roll bars how are you hauling gear to the track when not towing the car.

This is the setup im looking for and a friend is selling a harbor freight trailer prepped for tires and a tool box for $350.

From what I've searched, you can't mount a trailer hitch on the E9X M3 due to the exhaust and lack of mounting points to the frame. Looks like we are stuck with stuffing them in the rear seats or on the roof.

This is for an E46, but maybe could translate over to the E92 since the exhaust setup is similar.

It's very doable. My buddy has one, i've been thinking about getting one installed on my mine. I still pack track tires across the backseat but not if one gets a half cage.

Google "The Hitch House", Atlanta, Ga. Call and talk to them, they can tell you the particulars. The rig is very discreet, only shows a 2 x 2" cutout of the mesh grill in the back where the receiver is hidden once the tongue part is removed. I'll search for photos on my other computer and post for you.

^ yeah, but the trailer makes it look like a REAL racecar, plus adds like 15HP.

Exactly. The half cage should be custom built with clearance for loading wheels/tires.

having it on a trailer makes it look like a real race car not towing one!

I'm talking bout towing the trailer ON the race track! would def intimidate the other drivers, keep them off your bumper. maybe mount some R-comps ON the trailer itself for more grip. total badass.

(what is that 800-number for the support group again?)

Back half cage. Just had the crossbar in the rear set high enough so tires would slide under. Its still tough to fit all my things but works for now until I get that featherlight! The back section will only fit tires then I put my gear bag with hans and helmet and all tools on the passenger seat and jack in the passenger footwell. There are pictures of the cage on my m3 build thread as well.

Awesome, thanks. Am I correct that in this pic: http://www.m3post.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1366255721 you slide the wheels in throguh the trunk, and then have enough room to flip them on their sides? Or do they remain flat?

If you have any pics of it fully loaded up, would be great to see some time as well.

I do slide 2 wheels thru from the trunk area into the space the rear seats occupied. I don't have room to stand them up however so they remain flat and can barely fit all 4. I have track day next week if I remember I will take a shot of it.

Another option...

However instead of the full rack, I'd just do two parallel front/back bars for the tires to rest in.

That looks nuts. I think I'd feel kinda silly rolling up to the track with a setup like that (or pulling a little trailer with my M3, for that matter). Maybe I'm just ignorant because I don't track my car yet, but we have $70k+ cars already, if we're gonna race them, can't we afford a $10k F-150 to tow them too? First world problems

Some people don't like that solution. The picture above, guy has truck right next to his car. Me personally it would be a dream to load and unload an already prepared car and if you have mechanical issue at all you can still get home.

Just because you have a truck doesn't mean you want or have the room to store a trailer. I have a 20' enclosed trailer that I store offsite, even though I have a large driveway I really don't want it sitting there all the time, I don't put my M3 in it to go to the track either, like to be able to drive the M3 to and from the track as well as I don't drive it as much as I should.

Yep everybody has there own idea about what to do and that's cool with me. I don't have storage on site for a trailer either but still want one and will figure something out. Already have another trailer stored off site as well. I'd rather unload and then hang out and bs instead of changing tires and pads.

This is my current setup for the FR-S and i can tell you its a pain in the ass to load and unload plus i have to drive 30 mins to my ranch to pick up the trailer since the HOA does not allow trailer parked in our driveways. My current tow vehicle is a 2007 Ram 1500 hemi and she sits in my driveway all month long until i need it to tow the track car which is basically money sitting in my driveway plus im paying insurance for something i dont drive. My fr-s is not streetable its loud, caged, stiff, and brakes squeal because race car. Since im selling that car and the m3 is street/track i really dont need a trailer so shes up for sale. This is why i need to find a simpler solution to get to and back from the track.

If anybody is interested in my trailer its up for sale:
