Ordered my M3

Hi All,

Just wanted to say hello, as yesterday I put down a deposit on a new M3 sedan in Interlagos Blue, Bamboo, 6 speed, competition, convenience and and premium packs. Very excited, and it should make an interesting change from my current Subaru STI. Should be here in the usual 6-8 weeks, allegedly.

The downside is that I got screwed on price, as it didn't really occur to me to properly negotiate on a custom build, since this is the only custom I have ever done (I know, should have read the forums first. Live and learn). But, at least I got a pretty good deal on my trade. Anyhow, no point in worrying about it now...

Nice! I am glad you are keeping an "endangered species" alive by ordering a 6MT!

Congrats! Interlagos/Bamboo is my favorite combo on the E90s

Nice pics of IB/Bamboo in this thread **Project 808 goes to Munich** (no ZCP...)

Thanks guys! The waiting is going to be a killer.

The pics of that IB above look great. Makes me feel really good that I made the right color choice...

I've seen every color option possible on the M3 in person and I hate to have to say this, but the blue M3 Sedan is one of the weakest you can buy. I hope you've seen it in person at the least.

White really works well for the sedan, think it over and make sure you're certain you'll like it. It's a lot of money.

- Just some friendly advice, don't take it the wrong way.

I LOVE Interlagos Blue but not a huge fan of Bamboo. Silver looks great inside.

Below was my thought process on colors (partially doing this for my own benefit so I can be sure of my reasoning while there is still time!). First off, I am not a huge fan of white cars generally...just not really my style, though I can see what you guys mean about showing the lines.

When I was shopping, I had it narrowed down to SG and IB. Black, white and SS didn't do much for me. The MR for some reason doesn't look right to my eye (seems like it would suit an Audi more than a BMW). Finally, the LM is nice, but I prefer the slightly darker and purple look of the IB (plus I thought IB would be more of a change from from my current bright blue STI).

If I had gone with SG, I would have gone with the fox red interior. For the IB, I was torn between the silver and bamboo. It was a really close call between the SG and IB, and I changed my mind daily. I decided against the SG because: (i) it is available on all BMWs, and (ii) I see literally dozens of space gray 3-series daily. Seems like 90% of cars around here are black, gray, white or silver...

Once I decided on IB, I chose the bamboo over the silver after staring at pics of each for a few hours. Even though tan interiors don't usually work for me, the contrast between the black and the (non-extended) tan just seemed warmer, richer and more inviting than the somewhat cooler look of the silver. Also, I have two small kids to haul around everyday, and I realized that most of the crap they will drop in the car is tan-ish colored (crumbs, sand, snot, and, unfortunately, probably puke).

Woohoo, picked up my M3 today! Only driven her for a bit, but here are my first impressions:

- LOVE LOVE the color. Couldn't be happier with the IB, and the Bamboo is lovely.

- Very happy I got the 6MT. The shifting action is perfectly fine. I had bit a little worried because of people complaining about notchiness, but it seems right in line with what I am used to.

- Was initially confused by the light clutch but have gotten used to it. However, the revs drop off much faster when clutching than my STI, so my shift timing is all off. I will need a few days of practice to get smooth.

- Initially thought it seemed a bit sluggish on the throttle. Then I realized I had the throttle response set to the lowest. Put it in the highest setting and it just took off...felt like a completely different car.

- Wife likes it a lot more than the STI. Also likes the fact that I can put it in "slow and soft" mode when she is in it, and then put it in "fast and rough" mode when she isnt.

All in all, I couldn't be happier. Can't wait to get the first 1200 miles out of the way so that I can really see what it is capable of.

Congrats!!!

Interlagos Blue has been growing on me big time lately. I think it would be cool with the CF roof. Great choice with the manual....that's what I will be grabbing!!! I totally feel you on the practicing with a different clutch...I hate driving other peoples cars and shifting like I'm back in high school again.
