✪ Alekshop | Dyno Day Results
Our latest dyno day was filled with a diverse variety of cars. We had everything from E46 M3's, Z4M's, a few 335's, E60 M5's, and many E9x M3's. It was a clear day, but the day was filled with heartache as car after car produced about 10-15whp less than everybody expected. Even cars that had dyno'd before on the same dyno only a few weeks earlier seemed to be down 10-15whp. Many of these cars had already run baseline dyno's earlier, and were now back after getting tuned, or supercharged. For those people who dyno'd less than previously under the same configuration, their results are either omitted, or only entered as "Uncorrected" in the Dyno Database (this avoids confusion for creating multiple entries in the DynoDB for the same car and same configuration).
More than 24 cars signed up, but only thirteen showed up. We had two ESS VT1-535's, two M5's, two 335's, and one E9x M3 with the new Evolve ECU Tune (Hollywood Hogan). The following results are a summary of results. In most cases, there are multiple graphs for each DynoDB entry. But clicking the "Graph" link below will only show one graph. To see the full results including charts, graphs, boost logs, and downloadable dyno files, click on the Dyno Database link. It was a great time meeting everybody. We'll schedule another event soon so we can dyno all of the cars that missed out, or could not make it. Individual Dyno Results: Individual dyno results are shown below. SAE corrected results are shown twice, using two different sources. The first source (SAEd) are the SAE corrected results straight from the Dynojet. The second source (SAEk) of SAE corrected results are obtained by using the Kestral 4500 weather station data for each individual dyno run and running it through an independent SAE correction formula. This ensures that the dyno results are accurate and can be independently audited and verified for authenticity and accuracy. The legend below has the following meaning:

* Entry used for the Dyno Database Notes about AFR Air-Fuel Ratio was sampled from two location: 1) the dyno, 2) ECU logs were captured with actual AFR as seen by the ECU itself. The ECU log is assumed to be 100% accurate and provides a good method to compare against the AFR sniffer of the dyno. As you can see in this case, the dyno wideband AFR is totally out of whack and should probably be replaced. |

PG put up one graph to show how jacked up the dyno sensor was. Look at the following entry, it shows the dyno AFR along with the ECU AFR. http://bmw.pencilgeek.org/showDyno.php?recID=419 |

Wow, fantastic. Would love to see what the cam phasing is up to, guess that's a little harder to datalog? Very interesting how much more spark advance the dinan tune is using pretty much everywhere. Scale is different on the two spark advance plots so they look similar but the Evolve tune actually appears to drop off quite a bit more at 7,000 rpm (cam phasing step change?) and then increase all the way to redline where the Dinan tune has another dropoff but still ends up at a higher numerical value. The differences in the power curves seem to track pretty close to the spark advance curve once you get above 6k. I wonder how much of that is attributable to the octane difference, since we've seen 91 octane have a pretty big effect on other dynos on other cars.

The RD stroker's torque curve is phenomenal. 300+ftlbs at the wheels from 2700 rpm to over 6000 rpm. That kind of broad powerband is pretty amazing, it's basically a flat line.

All Bone Stock entries: http://www.****************/DynoDB.php?unknownOpts=38 6MT, Bone Stock, Dynojet, 91-Octane: http://www.****************/DynoDB.ph...unknownOpts=38 DCT, Bone Stock, Dynojet, 91-Octane: http://www.****************/DynoDB.ph...unknownOpts=38 Bone stock 6MT's on 91-Octane range from 312-337whp; while bone stock DCT's range from 320-343whp. This stroker is a 6MT. The stroker is just an S65 with 15% more displacement. So you really wouldn't expect it to produce any more than 15% more power if it was otherwise bone stock. This particular stroker isn't the complete RD package; it lacks the RD headers and exhaust, but uses Akrapovic exhaust instead, and also used a mix of 100/91 octane. If the baseline were the highest 6MT at 337whp, then this would be about 19.5% above stock; but using the midpoint of 324.5whp for 6MT, then this would be about 24% over stock. The stroker seems right about where it should be. Here's a link to all of the dyno results for the RD Stroker motors. This will probably help put it into perspective a little better. http://www.****************/DynoDB.php?EngRbldOpts=4 Quote:

Was Hollywood Hogan running a stock rear section exhaust? I'm surprised, I'd expect more out of the Evolve software, maybe it doesn't work well with the Turner test pipes.

91 octane is playing a fairly significant role here I suspect

I think that once power goes up, the stock rear section may become restrictive.
But, I will be guessing until I get my car to the dyno, which is going to require break in first |

Thanks so much Alek for compiling all the data. thanks to this dyno day I was able to notice some boost oscillation and correct the issue with my tuner. Dynoed the car again and gain some hp and tq. max power now at 339hp and 367tq.
very happy with the result, keep us posted for next event. |
