Boss vs. M3 ZCP
So guys, whats your take on the new boss mustang? Ford's goal is to take down the m3 on all performance figures. Media hype, or real-world success? Just curious what you guys think.. Those of you who would "never drive a Ford" in their life, that's fantastic for you, but its not what i'm asking.

i think just the fact that they are chasing an m3 means something.
Even if it does beat it, they will be somewhat closely priced Now go figure which one you would drive/buy |

I don't give a damn either way, but big companies don't make announcements like this unless the outcome is already in the bag. Witness the GT-R against the Porsche Turbo. Nissan made this clear well beforehand, as Ford has just done. Bruce |

I have no doubt Ford will deliver on their promise and, sometime in 2011, deliver a Mustang that will better - in all objective performance measures - a car BMW designed back in 2007. If not earlier.

Unless they under rated this engine somehow, I strongly believe the outcome will be very close on a track against a DCT ZCP M3. I'd actually be surprised if the Mustang wins. Regardless, I don't think its us that should worry...I'd feel a lot shittier right now if I were a C63 owner.

The mustang is flat mean. I would not engage in a stop light run with one. One word, torque. Don't get me wrong, I would never swap a M3 for one. But I give credit to Ford for doing so well. I wish BMW had just installed the engine at around 4.4L to address the torque issue.
As a previous poster noted, the M3 was designed in 2006, giving everyone else a fat target. Funny thing is audi failed with the RS-5 to a degree and Ford hit a home run. Go figure. I would add though gents, the x pipes and exhaust add a nice bit of torque. Pulleys this week and then a tune. |

Everyone tries to chase the M3. MB, Lexus, Audi tried and have failed. ZCP non-ZCP it doesn't matter. Ford can strip down their interior and rework the power plant and drivetrain a bit but it wont change the fact that the M3 has a character that no one can reproduce.

1. AUDI RS5 2. The CTS-V Challenge However, Ford has had 4 years to build a car that can compete with the m3 in terms of performance so I wouldn't be surprised if the Boss can outperform the m3 in certain categories (i.e., 1/4mi). However, I am glad that Ford is doing well and building cars that threaten the m3 becuase when the new m3 comes out, it will be that much better. Would I drive a Mustang? I used to say that I would NEVER drive a Mustang. Now, I probably still won't, but the idea of a Mustang does enter my train of thought. Me day dreaming... ...hmmm, it doesn't look bad. ...wow, great performance numbers ...that jet black one looks so aggresive ...damn, not a bad price...I think I can squeeze one into my garage next to the m3 and use it as a DD Poof....my redneck buddy comes driving by in his Mustang and I say to myself, "man, I can never drive one of these"...LOL! I had the same thought about the Chrysler 300C until the one on 30" rims comes rolling by....LOL. My point is, that many cars out there can compete with an m3 on some levels but few cars can actually compete with an m3 on all or most levels. Just my two cents... -SZ -SZ Last edited by SUB-ZERO; 10-06-2010 at 08:08 AM.. |

I feel the same way. The new 2011 Mustang performs equally on track according to latest comparo. I am sure Boss will beat current M3 on track. But every time I think about getting one, the same thoughts go through my mind... |
