akrapovic evo + emission tests

How are the folks with akra evo getting by with emission tests? Do you guys keep switching to the normal cat for the tests? Thanks!

Do you have a CEL? Are you using a Delete-R? If these answer to either of these questions is yes, you will have to switch back to your stock midpipe.

Which cars need emissions? I thought it had to be like 5 years old or something.

No I do not have one. I am considering this as my first mod in the near future.

I am aware of ecu programming that removes CEL light. But I was wondering more of the actual test. I guess it is not due even for early 2008 model owners.

With any high flow exhaust that throws a CEL, you need to either find a mechanical way around the problem or a tune.

On my other car with race cats/headers, I use extenders and mini-cat, so that it won't throw a code.

You can also get a tune to disable the O2 sensor monitor or decrease the sensitivity of the monitor. If you disable the monitor, it will show the monitor as not re-setting, but you should still pass.

Yep. Which is why I just had to get mine...but there is this thing called the Burger Motorsports DP Fix that works wonders if you don't have a tune yet, LOL.

Just had to do mine for a January registration of a 2008 M3.

On the Evo you cannot just remove the x-pipe section, you would have to put the entire exhaust back to stock unless you buy the Akra adapters.

Umm, there's no way you are going to pass emissions without a fix.

It's going to throw a code- P0420 or P0430

Every Evo system comes with adapter so you don't have to buy anything.

Evo system can be converted to Slip-On in 1h.

If anyone needs those adapters or missing them we have a few sets of those ...

Bumping this thread because I'll be moving to Seattle soon and have an Akra Evo + ESS Tune. The discussion doesn't seem to land on a definitive answer on whether or not this'll pass so was checking back in.

I don't have a CEL, but not sure about the "ready" status that I think you need to pass testing. If anyone can chime in on this, that'd be awesome.

You are probably going to have to contact ESS about the 'readiness' of the O2 sensors. If looking for a definitive answer it is always best to go straight to the source as the interwebs are often muddled with misinformation. My .02

Cheers

Yeah, that's what I plan on doing. I've been trying to contact them in regards to the process of getting the remote flashing tools, but their response time hasn't been ideal. I'll see what they say when I ask about the O2 sensors, hopefully they can have it tuned so that it's in the ready position so I won't have to swap a bunch of parts around.
