CAUTION: Replica Vorsteiner Aero Front Lip / Spoiler Warning

So I thought i'd try and save $1,000+ on the Vorsteiner front lip / spoiler by finding a cheaper alternative on eBay.

If you are thinking of doing same thing I strongly encourage you not to.

The sharp edges scratched my paint work in 4 places, the holes didn't line up properly and the whole thing seemed to be slightly warped. After 3 hours of struggling to get the screws in and making modifications to my bumper I finally got it on!

I must admit when I stepped back it did look pretty good:

However when you look closely - IT'S SHIT.

Note the gaps everywhere?

Has anyone else had this problem with replica lips?

I have a few questions on the back of this rookie mistake:

1. I am now going to get the genuine Vorsteiner part. Has anyone else installed it, and, do you have gaps / lining up issues?

2. Did you install it yourself or take it to a mechanic or somewhere to have it hoisted up first?

3. I have paint scratching on my lovely orange paint now. How hard/expensive is it to get that buffed out/repainted. Do they need to take the whole bumper off to get it done?

Thanks guys and hopefully this thread can save someone else from making a silly mistake as well.

It never pays to be a tight ass!

That last line is so true. Thanks for the heads up.

Sorry you had to learn this the hard way!

To address your questions:
1. Regardless of brand, there will always be some that fit better than others.
2. I would always recommend installing yourself if you have the tools and talent. Will save you tons of money in the end.
3. Since I cannot see the scratches you are referring to, I would just say this...if you can feel the scratches with your fingernail, then they will not buff out. If the bumper needs to be painted, it will have to be taken off the car to do so.

Yeah I feel you on reps. I bought one that actually wasn't too bad. I'd say 90% there? Still not perfect but for the price I wasn't complaining at all! Especially for what I consider a "consumable" part...

My installer had no issue installing my Vorsteiner rep front spoiler and it looks great!
