Blows my mind how they could have an "STi Concept" that uses the exact same engine. This car needs 250+ horsepower, not to mention something more substantial than 215F/225R tires.

Subaru is no stranger to turbocharging, prep this engine for boost and have it pump out 275hp while keeping weight at 2,700lbs. THAT would be something I'd lineup to buy.

Top Gear is also posting about this. The real STi concept will be at the LA auto show this month. Speculating at 300hp.

I'd heard the "under 300hp" rumors too, but the latest information surrounding this "STi Concept" doesn't sound promising. We shall wait and see.

If right under 300 hp, and at its weight. . . would it not be faster than their WRX STi, which weighs more? Would they let this thing (which is supposed to cost under 30K) trump their flagship sporty car? I understand that one is RWD and the other is AWD, but cost-wise, the "just under 300hp" sounds too good to be true.

That said, I see the STi version getting somewhere around 260-270 hp. I would be [pleasantly] surprised to see one get closer to 300 and be under $30,000, while keeping its weight to around 2750.

I believe it was the Toyota that's supposed to be under $30k. I'm imagine this would be somewhere between $30-35. I'm sure it's different enough from the WRX STi but it'll steal some sales away from it.

Well then again they're saying the WRX will become it's own model differentiated from the Impreza. There are all sorts of rumors about what that means.

One rumor is that the WRX will use a shortened Impreza platform and will become a smaller hatchback like current WRC cars, with a 1.6L turbo engine.

The question is do you really cannibalize WRX sales, or do you steal people away from the Genesis Coupe, 370Z, Mustang, etc.
