Something between VMR V710 and HRE HP40
Hey all,
I love the look of the HRE HP40s, but I do not want to spend that much on a set of wheels. That being said, I am willing to spend more than a set of VMR V710s if there is an advantage to doing so. So, are there any wheels out there that match this 7 spoke style, but perhaps fall between the HREs and the VMRs, as far as price? Or, should I just accept that the VMRs are a quality wheel (though a bit heavy), and go with them? In case it matters, I want silver wheels. Thanks.

I don't know how much more you're willing to go, but I personally would go with RAC over HRE to begin with anyways, and the GB price is cheaper than the HRE

There is a Very Small Window to Get Into the RAC Group Buy

A wheel that may be somewhat better than the VMR is the Alufelgen SF-71 as they use a better casting method (low pressure vs. gravity): http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=330710

How bout BBS? The CH-R's have a nice look.
On a side note, has anyone seen the BBS CS in action? Thanks! I'll check out the RACs, but you're right, I think that is still a bit more than I'd like to spend. They are great looking wheels, though.

V710s look great on this body style M3, the lines really make the wheels pop out, and get some attention... |

it's really up to what you want ...the RAC are quality strong light weight wheels...
my experience with BBS cast wheels, is that they are fairly heavy..but very strong wheels..i ran 19s" in winter for 2 season on my old car ..no damage at all, even the finish...I think the CH-R supposedly had some weights removed on the spokes, it might be a tad lighter.. the IND Atlantis car had something similar..i can only imagine they be about the same when rolling

Depending on your budget, the RAC might be the best forged wheel you could buy at the moment. If not, the Alufelgen SF-71 might be exactly what you are looking for. The quality, engineering and design cannot be beat for the money. The wheels are low-pressure cast which makes them lighter and significantly stronger than gravity cast. The front weights only 23.8lbs which is nearly forged/flow-formed territory and the quality of the finish is second to none. We have gotten nothing but excellent reviews from every single one of our customers.
-The front SF-71 in 19x8.5 mounted on 245/35/19 Tires weight 45.2lbs vs the 19" OEM front wheels on 245/35/19 tires that weighted 51lbs. A savings of nearly 6lbs per corner. -The rear SF-71 in 19x9.5 mounted on 265/30/19 Tires weight 51.5lbs vs the 19" OEM rear wheels on 265/35/19 tires that weighted 54.5lbs. A savings of 3lbs per corner. Please feel free to contact Julius@WheelSTO for a quote and the best customer service on M3post. Otherwise, the VMRs are a great wheel within its price range and very popular within the BMW crowd.

For what you're looking for, Alufelgen SF71 are definetely the way to go. They are priced slightly higher than the VMR's but are of better build. They are made with low pressure cast which is far better than gravity cast structurally speaking (better weight too).
As far as design is concerned, they match what you are looking for, and IMO look sleeker than any other mesh design out there. The BBS CH-R's design is pretty sick but are a distant second to the SF71s design. Not to mention the SF71's outmatch them in weight significantly, SIGNIFICANTLY. |

If you are looking specifically for the HRE P40 style, the Alufelgen may be your best bet.
If you are looking for other wheels that are high quality monoblock wheels, but cost less than HRE, I would recommend Volk and Advan. |

I don't disagree with anything above, but if you are like me and HRE's are what you really want, then get them. Save up and get what you wnat, you don't want to regret anything or consider selling which ever you end up only to get HRE's in the future.

me personally i can't see spending the money on the HRE P40 when there no much lighter then the VMR 710 or if they are then not by much. they are also not much stronger.
if your gonna spend HRE money i would just spend it on a super strong lightweight wheel like a RAC or a NEEZ etc and get best of both worlds. HRE's have always and always will be a bling wheel in my op and way overpriced. flame on all you want but there are better options out there for the money. i had no problem strapping a set of VMR 710's on my car for my winter set up and then in the summer i will get a light weight set or powder coat my oem 19's as there pretty light and forged as is to each there own but i have never been a HRE fan for handling, performance and strength. bling yes but thats it, i can spend my hard earned money on better wheels no offense to HRE just my honest opinion and they make awesome looking wheels for sure and people are willing to pay the price so more power to them but that guy isn't me
