I decided not to do my ED with them for similar reasons. I think they are great on a locate/delivery but I share your concerns on ED.

I'd really resist a locate or local deal and wait it out for the ED especially since you've waited this long. You will get a better deal and the experience to boot. And even at $55k it would not be enough savings for me to justify the 09....those guys are on crack.

LOL... no kidding. Well, their loss.

Really though I think the thing that's killing me is that I sold my car a month ago so I'm down to just my motorbike... and St. Louis has pretty much had "Monsoon Season" for the last month with no signs of abating. My house smells of wet Cordura.

They literally replied by email and said "We are SOOO far apart I don't think we can reach an agreement. Thank you and I hope we can still earn your business in years to come."

WTF? Are BMW dealers really so uppity and self-absorbed? I offered them a number I had a feeling they'd reject (but higher than people were talking in this thread) and they turned me down. But to also include all the details of my ED order, option codes and the price I'm paying... they didn't even try to say "Well we can save you $x on your order..." and try to negotiate it so that they made the profit? Wow. All I can say is that my experience so far is that BMW salesdroids are almost universally dumb with only a few notable exceptions.

Hell if they'd even matched it I might've considered changing my order to go through them... but this is classic bad sales technique. I think I'm going to write a letter to their sales manager to laugh at them some more
They're probably banking on someone else coming in and buying it at a higher price than you offered. Remember, there's a sucker around every corner.

Yep. Then again, I'm washing my car on Friday, so you might want to take some rain gear if you go anywhere this Friday.

The ED route is just amazing. Do it. But i would make sure your car is manufactured before Oktoberfest.
The demo is too risky in my opinion.
