Shocking find: E92 no faster than 335i, E46

I've been stuck at 80 kph/50 mph average speed with my past three cars - E46 M3, 335i and E92 M3 - and on my bike, a Sprint 1050 ST.

Looks more like a driver/rider issue. Its not a hardware problem...

Unfortunately this post just doesn't come across as funny as the OP had hoped.

For this reason, I will have to give it a fail. However, the effort was definitely there.

I have no idea what the OP is even trying to say. You drive the same speed as you used to?

I guess I'm dense, was the OP trying to imply that he drives fast by averaging 50mph?
And somehow brag about previously owned cars as well?

I believe he was trying to say that no matter what car you own, your average speed will likely tend be about the same simply because of speed limits. I think the point is that there is a certain irony in always wanting something faster since we are prisoners of our road system and its legislative regulations anyway.

Of course, speed is one thing but acceleration and cornering Gs are another. So I will stick with the latest and greatest technology to maximize performance and enjoyment in those areas, even though I rarely take my car deeply into super-legal speed territory.

I average about 20-30 mph on my 335i in 50% city 50% freeway...smh @ averaging 50 mph. You better be on the highway 90% of the time to average 50mph.

Btw, anybody else's avg mph slowly decline at a red light or a stop?

The biggest irony is the popularity of M cars in N.A. where agressive drivers - no matter how skilled and well-equipped - have become public enemies.

I'm not sure I am getting you as far as the comment about North America. Surely there are poor M drivers the world over.

Also, lets not forget that that there are poor drivers of all makes. I suppose I see your point, if you are saying that the more performance packed into a car, the more likely it is to kill someone (the people on board or others, alike). However, I don't think there is data so to demonstrate that things are necessarily trending upward. I definitely do agree that a high performance car in the wrong hands is a recipe for disaster though.

No, rather my comment was directed at the perception in N.A. that speed is the root of all traffic evils. I think that this myth is reinforced by public authorities who like the ease of conviction associated with speeding. But that's just an aside. You got my main point, which is that all of these machines have far more potential than any of us can safely or legally exploit on public roads.

Thanks. Obviously, that was lost on many, as is typical on this forum.

I thought it was pretty cool. I think I've only reset the average speed a couple of times in 35k miles. Yet, with all my 80+ mph highway driving I'm still only averaging 46 mph. If I had never reset it, the number might be significantly higher as I stopped making my weekly 500 mile excursions to the GF's house 6 months ago.

People,
Please post your average speeds and whether you've reset the display since new.

It's not the root, but it directly relates to greater consequences when things go wrong. F=M(V*V)

I thought OP referred to all those cars being limited to the same top speed, therefore they're not 'faster'.

But that same argument is why I don't care about any more than 400HP. I hardly ever venture above the ton even on deserted roads, and also hardly ever use the acceleration these cars are capable of, so more power is at the bottom of my priorities. After having driven many much more expensive cars, I still think the M3 is the best all-around car. I don't desire anything more, and that's also why I treat my M3 as my 'exotic' because I know it's the last one I'll own due to no more NA V8. I also happen to think the M3 has the best sounding engine I've ever heard (yes, I don't like how Ferraris sound). And the driving experience is also second to none. Just the right amount of luxury in it, a subdued engine note that doesn't intrude while cruising, and car has the perfect combination of sporty noise with acceptable cabin noise while touring. One of its main shortcomings is the low gearing, but some some folks think it's too high . You can never please everybody. With all its faults, this car is one of the best values for your dollar IMO. And no, I'm not a BMW 'fanboy', or even an M fanboy; just an E92 M3 fan. This is my first and last M car. And possibly my last BMW, as there're better values on all other categories. Good day gang.
