Honestly, $3k for an intake is way too much for what it gives, maybe max. 5-7hp?
It's just show rather then go. Carbon Fiber looks great but as someone have mentioned before do you drive while your hood is wide opened?

$$$$3kkkkkkkk That is crazy. And people used to complain about Dinan products being overpriced.

Where is the GruppeM selling for 3k? That's marked up pretty bad.

$28xx is pretty damn close to $3xxx wouldn't you say ?

even $2500 plus shipping is retarted for an intake that gives 0 gains.

$2419

That is the cheapest I've seen, but I wouldn't do it!
It shouldn't be more than $1000-$1500 MAXXXXXXX

I realize it is made of CF, and thats what makes it expensive - but still!
Considering there are no gains with it, which is a fact I believe!
Its just not worth it,

ASR Engineering is doing R&D and their intake will actually make power and still be half the price!

I'm also looking foward to seeing the ASR intake. I know the Dinan intake will be pricy but I also interested in seeing what Steve comes up with.

ASR saw very impressive gains on their E60 M5 intake system.
It was also expensive, but you saw roughly 30 hp gains. Which is quite impressive!
If we see 12-18 hp on the M3, and for about $1000-$1500, Im in!

Well, this weekend it's going on, and by Sunday I should have some performance numbers to post. We'll see if it makes power, or loses power. I'm going to bet it's a wash...but at least it looks cool under the hood.

Based on the dyno runs I've already done, and seeing how the intake works on this car, I seriously doubt these devices will make much, if any power. I mean, what can you do to get the air as far away from the heat sources as possible: 1) Take from the front of the car (check); 2) Take from front spoiler/wheel well area (check); Take from above the hood (check). The current intake already does all of these things. But it doesn't use a good insulator to keep the air cool -- and I'm hoping that's how the CF will do better. Other than using better insulators, I think it will be hard to see how a different intake will be better than the factory.

But we'll see this weekend, when I have a chance to before/after dyno test the Gruppe-M CAI.

Looking forward to your tests...be sure to post it in this thread!

As for making more power gains by using a different style intake, we will see once ASR has something to show us. He won't make it if it doesnt make power, he knows his shit and I know he will make power.

Only time will tell...

I'm confident ASR will have something better than the GruppeM. CF under the hood is just dumb bling. No offense to anyone that bought it.

Concur! I'll just be a little slower and maybe a few horses less than those with it! The $2600 for my Esienmman Sport okay but more than THAT for an exhaust is robbery!

I have two friends both with E46 M3s and one brought and installed the Gruppe M intake. The sound is amazing but they found no noticeable improvement in performance between the two cars and it didn't offer any improvement in economy either.

Though for the noise it's arguably worth the outlay.

My opinion: No, it's not worth it. I am waiting for Helene or K&N to release their drop-in filter designs which should yield similar if not better results.

You are so biased, sounds like you work for that other company...every post.

Anyways, I think the Gruppe M is way too expensive, but that doesn't mean it doesn't give a proven 10whp. And that the engine bay will look sick with it.

We sell Gruppe M and besides the 10 or even 15 hp gains , the satisfaction of customers , from the moment they receive the Gruppe M CAI to the point where everything is installed has been stellar. It is amazing how everyone has been so happy with the purchase.

The quality of the CF and the fit and finish are amazing.
I do agree that it is not for everyone, but it has been very popular for us.

BTW, we are thinking of doing a GB for about $2200, if anyone is interested.
Let us know.

Same experience here.

Even those who were reluctant to purchase never looked back afterwards.

Once you hear, fit, feel and experierence the effect it has it's doesn't feel expensive.

Hmm toss in abit of extra cash and spend it on a BBK instead! Well if you have the spare cash after that then go for the GruppeM. It's a luxury item, not one of much necessity imo.

Are you for real? Almost 3k for a simple intake? This is reserved for the rich who don't care or those who just want it because nothing else is out. PG excluded.

LOL. I hear ya man... However, consider that people pay this much for a fricken exhaust that basically does the same thing......a little increase in HP, a little bling, and a change in tone....pretty much exactly what you get from an intake! So go figure.

However...for now its AFE FTW! lol I seen you on the GB too! lol
