I quit using my Hero2
For track days, I've been using both a GoPro Hero2 and an iPhone with Harry's Laptimer ($20 app). I mount the iPhone to the right of the interior rearview mirror. My preferred mount for the GoPro is on the helmet so I can see the track, my hands and hear the instructor.
I found that I wasn't viewing the GP video as much as the iPhone video since Harry's Laptimer provides an overlay of the track, speed, Gs, etc. I don't think I'll even bring the GoPro to my next track event.

If you decide to get the silver go pro 3 and have Verizon I can hook u up I work at Verizon and we sell them and I have one love it so far
