HELP Comsidering trading my M for a CTS-V

Looking for some hellp here please. I currently have an 08 Coupe with a 6 speed and am considering trading it in for an automatic CTS-V ( family reasond ) Bottom line is i have a crazy good deal on the table for the V ($13k off sticker) and they are even offering more than $1500 for my trade than I paid for it over 6 months ago. Am I crazy? I drove the V and it is a different experience but a true beast in its own right. Not sure I want to give up the 8400 redline and the sweet music the M's engine makes. I really can use the 4 door and automatic so the rest of the family can use the car but I'm really struggling with thsi one. Any thoughts would be appreciated and thank you in advance.

Wow a lot changed for you in just 6 months.

CTS-V is an amazing machine. Although i have no interest in getting one.

Drive it back to back with your M3 and see how you feel afterwards.

CTS-V is a hell of a car, and the deal sounds good. Up to you, of course.

Just make sure you're doing it for the right reasons, not just to have something new and different. If so, go for it and pray that it holds up better long term than previous models.

Get it, but... I bet you'll regret it later. The CTS-V is a great car but the autotragic is gonna get to you after a while.

Regards.

That is a heck of a deal! The V is a beast, I drove one recently. If I had that deal infront of me, I would highly consider it. Its a little larger, more civilized than the M3. the more highway driving the more I would like the V. I do most of my driving around town so the M3 is ok for now.

What are the specs on the V and what year? Maybe I'll drop by my dealer to see what they have...

Why don't you see what you can do on a trade for an e90 M3 so you can do a comparison? I know the CTS-V is a powerful car but to be honest, its a caddy. My friend got the CTS-4 when it first came out, and he was all into it - size, 4 doors, all wheel drive, interior, 40gig hard drive, etc - BUT he sold it after having it for a year or so. Obviously something changed from the first impression to the actual ownership.

I think you are caught up because you see a great deal from Caddy (especially on the trade), so see what BMW can do for you so you can at least have a choice....choice is good.

Thanks for the feedback and it is a tough call. I was one of the lucky ones that bought my M with the huge rebates and got an awesome deal and to be honest I am shocked I can get more than what I paid by $1500 than what I paid almost 7 months later. I do alot of highway driing and my wife just couldn't learn how to drive sitck. That may actually have been a blessing though. The V also has a beautiful interior and the 4 doors are a plus with teh family. This is a tough one and I do love the M3 fo soo many reasons but the V is one of the ultimate sleepers. If I helod onto my cars for more than a few years I probably woulnd't even consider the V long term and hold onto the M. THe deal is just ridiculously good right now and is tough to pass up.

Your 4 door dilemma can be resolved with an E90. You will lose nothing with the sedan and gain more practicality.

Regarding automatics, while not a true automatic, that is excatly why BMW created M-DCT so that people who do not know how to drive a manual like your wife can enjoy the M3 as well.

If you like to take corners... you won't be happy. CTS V is in a class with M5... (which I sold for my M3)

I loved having the Freeway Bully in my M5 (and like a CTS V)... but missed the precision the M3 delivers with every day enjoyment!

JMOS... i'd say E90 M3 DCT and you solve EVERYTHING (IMO)

Both actually. Noone else in my house can drive the M cause its a 6-sp and teh wife loves speed and wants to drive the car. I also could use the 4 doors since her car is a coupe as well. Plus I am also looking for all that torque and I really liked the interior of the V too.

If bmw can't fix the knocking and pinging in my e90 I will be forced into a cts-v. I drove one last week and the steering was numb but the power was sickening!

Love almost everything about the CTS-V. Emphasis on the "almost".

Hated the chrome wheels. Too much bling. But when in Joisey....

Make sure you test drive one at night. I hated the instrument lighting.

Too many buttons. Made me miss iDrive.

On the plus side, great brakes, nice suspension tuning, an honest-to-God spare tire, and a Tony Soprano size trunk.

Of course, you could just keep the M3 and trade in the wife.......

Not to be a pessimist but................... $13k below sticker and they are going to pay $1500 over the original MSRP for a 6 month old car???? Something stinks bro.

Sounds like you bought the wrong car in the first place...

I drove both and bought the M3. The Caddy is just a little too big on the outside without really gaining any more room on the inside. Sure, it's a monster of a car, but it looks like an Escalade.
