Anti-Theft Alarm

Hi; what is the Anti Theft Alarm System option? I understand that without a key the car can not be driven, stolen (at least not easily). Of course remote door opening closing is standard. So what is the Alarm? A siren that goes off when someone busts your window?

I don't have my car yet, but it has an interior motions sensor, which mosts cars don't have stock. I've heard that even a leaf getting in the car will set it off. Other than that the alarm does...what an alarm does.

The alarm for the m3 9x has many interesting features. Two of what I can remember off the top my head.

One is the motion sensors where if you leave the windows down and when the car is locked and someone reaches into your car it will set off the alarm.

Another one is mentioned in the manual saying that if you park your car there a sensor where if someone tries to tow your car or steal your wheels it will also set off your alarm. I like this one the most, very unique feature.

I didn't know about the wheel/tow feature. That is awesome!!!

the question is, someone cuts one of your tires with a knife or a sharp object, will the Alarm set off?

I purposely didn't get the alarm for lack of need. That and when I did have an alarm, it would always find some annoying way to get set off at 3am while I'm in bed, freaking me out and running half naked outside with a baseball bat and barely open eyes ready to jack up a thief. Everytime time it was the wind, or a pinecone dropping on the car, or something I could never figure out. Drove me insane. I'm sure the OEM alarm is much better, but I'm tainted.

That and I work on a gated base, live in a gated community, and the car stays in the garage. Figured it was a waste of money.

Alarm system*
The concept
The vehicle alarm system responds:
> When a door, the hood or the trunk lid is
opened
> To movements inside the vehicle: Interior
motion sensor, refer to page 33
> When the car's inclination changes, for
instance if an attempt is made to jack it up
and steal the wheels or to raise it prior to
towing away
> When there has been an interruption of
power supply from the battery
The alarm system signals unauthorized entry
attempts for a short time by means of:
> An acoustic alarm
> Switching on the hazard warning flashers
> Flashing the high beams
Arming and disarming
When you lock or unlock the vehicle, either with
the remote control or at the door lock, the alarm
system is armed or disarmed at the same time.
You can open the trunk lid even when the alarm
system is armed, by pressing the button on
the remote control, refer to page 28. The lid is
locked and monitored again as soon as you
close it.
Panic mode*
You can trigger the alarm system if you find
yourself in a dangerous situation:
Press the button for at least three seconds.
To switch off the alarm: press any button.
Switching off an alarm
> Unlock the car with the remote control,
refer to page 27.
> Insert the remote control all the way into the
ignition lock.

does anyone know if you can retrofit just the clown nose light and beep when the car is locked? i have an 11 without the alarm but the light under the mirror is sure there...i'm ok without the full alarm, but would like people to at least know the car is locked.

I was swapping track tires, jacked up the car just a bit and the alarm went off. Not much of a siren though.

Question is, have they addressed the issue which cost me 4 rims on my E46- When you insert anything into the key slot in the door, say, a screwdriver, and apply enough torque, the tumbler breaks, the locks pop open, and PRESTO.... no alarm. Just like if someone used the valet key.

Nope but don't feel bad, you can do this with ANY OEM alarm. If you want to make sure this doesn't happen, just remove the tumbler. Buy a sedan rear driver's door insert, remove the lock from the driver's door and install the new part. Takes about 30 seconds to do and then you don't have to worry about it anymore. Of note, I'm pretty sure you won't have any key holes anywhere in the car in case your battery dies.

I used to have an alarm that would page my key fob when it was going off. It actually saved my car from being messed with once because I was able to respond in time and scare some punk kids off. I might have to look into getting maybe some kind of add-on system to do this...

The alarm seems like it's worth it, if for anything just to protect your investment. Not to mention having an alarm will also drop your insurance rates.
