Question for 2011 M3 owners...
When iPod/iPhone music is being played via bluetooth, is the sound quality just as good as if you had connected it with the cable?
Just wondering

I don't know for sure since I don't have the car yet. I just know its a feature with 2011-that you have bluetooth streaming music.

The post September production cars with the combox do. Have not played with it as I have a dedicated nano I leave in the center console for music...

sounded good
I am no audiophile...not sure to the quality, but it sounded (as good as the aux input I used in my 335i).
bummer is you can not control the ipod wirelessly, only playback (no album art or song names).

I tried it with my android phone, did not think the soundwas as good as reading the same files off of usb. sounded more muffled. Probably due to tone settings or something on the phone though. With bluetooth streaming audio, the phone decodes the music file and sends the audio output to the car, hence volume can be controlled from phone, etc, same as aux jack essentially. However if people are getting album artwork from the device then its streaming the file to the car which should be identical to plugging in via usb.

It sounds identical with an iPhone4. Again, the transmission quality depends entirely on the transmitting application.

Bluetooth audio? I don't have it, as far as I know. My E92 is pretty much fully loaded, and I brush at least twice a day.

Is yours a September or later build? If so then you should have Bluetooth audio. Just make sure you go to configure phone and check the box for audio. To the op, I have an iPhone 3GS and the quality of Bluetooth audio is discernible from USB. The only annoying thing is that with streaming, it sometimes gets disconnected every 2 mins or so. Then sometimes it plays straight w/o any interruption. Anyone else having choppy playback?

I believe it's only on post September build M3s (combox). But for me, the real benefit of A2DP would be for third party apps (MLB, Pandora, AOL radio, etc). The iPhone is better off connected as it allows better control, album art, etc.

This capability is a real breakthrough. I just set mine up and it's great. I don't mind not being able to see the album art. I usually don't like the distraction of my screen so I programmed my shortcut button 6 to shut off the screen.
Now I have wireless phone calls and music control. |
