Akrapovic exhaust...

Heyy, I currently have an e92 m3 coupe with the slip on Akrapovic exhaust with the rear section only. However, I'm looking to make the sound my car louder yet not too over the top...I was thinking of getting rid of the cats or the resinator. I've been told to get the akrapovic x-pipe, however, I personally do not prefer the outcome of the sound. Could someone please help me with ideas for a new exhaust set up, or even recommend me some aftermarket x-pipes or cats...

Thank you so much for your help

Very satisfied with my Akra Evo. I upgraded from slip-on... Love it!

I also have the Akra Evo and I am extremely satisfied with the sound and feel when I drive. I was looking for something more aggressive and purposeful than stock but not over the top and the Akrapovic fits the bill perfectly. It is much deeper and bassier than stock but still quite livable IMO.

How would you describe the difference in sound between the slip on and the evolution?

When i had the Evolution system, it had no drone. To me, it was sort of silent.. so i swapped out the evolution to the GT4. i havnt heard it yet, but im assuming its about 20-30 percent more since four cats has been removed. Im planning to go back to LA this week, when i get in my car i will make videos and capture the sound.

If you want Louder go with the Akra GT4 but if you just want some mildly mannered, go with the Evolution.

The Akrapovic Evolution System that we had installed on one of our customers' car sounded very aggressive when you're on the throttle, but not too loud where it would annoy you when cruising around town.

It's a little louder, and more exotic sounding compared with slip-on

I would say its about 20-25% louder then the slip on. In the lower RPM range is where it has more bass.

Thanks alot for the help guys. So, I'm guessing taking off the resinators isn't the right way to go then? I will try to get an evolution or the gt4, but it costs much more than the slip on thats the only reason, thats keeping me from replacing the whole system. btw whats the price range for the gt4?

thx

I have the Akra evolution and can't imagine wanting louder. Would be painful to the ears. The Akra is at the upper limit of what I want. I get lots of compliments at the track.

I started with the slip-on as well. Upgraded to the full system after a couple months. I LOVE IT! IMO, it sounds way better.

Gotten a lot of compliments on the street. My favorite: "What do have on that car? It sounds mean as shit!" That being said, it's not over the top loud.

IT definitely looks great but my concern is that the finish of the tips will change to a nasty bronze color over time? Does anyone know? or will it still maintain the original finish and look after a simple wash? I saw some videos how it was changing color but not sure about the tips. thx

You are correct about the color change. I have now had mine for a year and the tips have changed color and are kind of yellowish. I don't really know how to change that other than changing the tips.

When you pound on the car, Titanium can definite heat up to the point where it changes color.

Just do some track days, most of the guys who've tracked the Akrapovic have ended up with a pretty blue/purple color to replace the bronze.

Personally, I like the bronze color. Gives the exhaust character.

I've been considering the GT4. I've heard my friend's evolution, love the tone but i wanted something more aggressive sounding. Please post a vidclip of the GT4 if you have the chance to. Thxs.

Almost all the exhaust systems that lose the resonators sound like that. I bet if the GT4 system was cat less but still had the resonators, it will sound mean as hell...

Does the evolution exhaust REALLY add 24 hp? can people who have it feel a noticeable difference? enough to warrant the 6k price tag? some people will slap on an intake and magically the car feels faster....im wondering if its one of those psychological things like how my car feels faster right after i wash it... or is it just marketing hype?

i would love to buy this but im afraid it might not be worth the hefty price...you can get anything with good sound for half that.

it's a cost vs personal goals issue. Akra makes beautiful exhausts, and have great workmanship, but as you suggested, close to $6k for 24hp.... compare that to a little over $8k for a supercharger kit that gives you over 100hp.

obviously there is more than just price and power, but it really boils down to what your goals are.

Checking this out too... I like the Akra system but I need to save up for something like that...

Otherwise I'd be going with the Eisenmann race... I like the black one :P
