Why isn't it selling?
Hi all.
I listed my M3 here on the forums/ebay/cars.com. I've had a ton of calls and messages about the car, but no offers. I think that I have it listed at a competitive price and the car shows great. Absolutely no issues, and it has been extremely well cared for. I move in three weeks and need to sell the car before then. I would really appreciate your input. Thank you! Here is a link to the cars.com post. CLICK ME

the forums usually want free stuff (i am guilty as the rest of everyone on here).
Don't under estimate craigslist and autotrader. The last several cars I have owned sold on CL long before forums/cars.com. Obviously with CL there is more BS to sift through, but generally pretty easy to do. car looks great btw. |

I'm gonna guess the mileage is the reason it's slow to sell. The mileage is appropriate for an 09 and I'm not saying your price isn't on par but the craziness about rod bearings is high among current owners on the forums I'd imagine the mass hysteria on the bearings and other rumored problems is even worse when people are googling horror stories and word of mouth.

I sold my last two cars on craigslist. Sure you got to deal with annoying low balling people but it does work. My last car which was a G37 coupe was sold to the first person that came to look at it from CL(sold in 3 days from post). GLWS

Thanks for all of your responses! I would prefer not to undergo the hassle of a part out. I really don't have time with the move.
CarMax has offered me $26,000 for the car for a quick sale. I will sell it to them in 3 weeks unless someone can offer better. Thanks everyone.

Seems like a good price, maybe just a tad high considering the mileage. Then again, you're in Naples where people almost always want to buy the latest and greatest toy new (formerly a 34109 resident).

Regarding your Cars.com listing, it might help to list the car's options: Tech package, Cold Weather, EDC, etc. If you can't remember it all, look up your VIN online.

Nice looking car. I had sold a previous car on autotrader, not sure how it compares to cars.com. Sounds like you have some viable offers. The 26K offer from carmax has me a little curious to what they would offer for my 09 hmm...

It's amazing how much that BPM sticker kills the value. I've always had good luck with Auto Trader. Sold several vehicles there. $29,500 for an M3 seems pretty damn reasonable. Get rid of the stupid sticker and list it again.

Not sure if you've sold by now, but coming from someone that has bought and sold way too many cars, I'll leave a few thoughts.
1. Mileage is appropriate, however, it is getting up there, especially with the rod bearing hysteria, as others have mentioned. 2. Mods... Personally, I always shy away from cars with "cheap mods". Please don't take this as an attack on you or your car, absolutely none of that here. But, when I see homemade black wheels (more often than not plastidip), colored roundel overlays, and blacked out lights/reflectors, and other similar type mods, it says to me that the buyer was modding on a budget, one that might've left no money for appropriate maintenance. 3. It's an alpine white/black coupe. Absolutely nothing wrong with that, but it's perhaps the most common variant of the car. The car looks good, and it sounds like you're close to making a deal. For reference, my buddy just sold his 2010 sedan with 70k miles, alpine white over fox red full leather for $28k. Also, forgot to ask, but why the hate for the BPM sticker? I met Mike Benvo and took a ride in his supercharged E92 and am absolutely in love with it. He's a super nice guy and seems incredibly knowledgeable...

Private sale of a vehicle can be rough and requires some patients. Stay the coarse and keep with what you feel your car is worth. Nice ride BTW and good luck.
