Sure, they're all great cars and impressive transmissions, but honestly...after a few tours through the gears each one of them, boring (except maybe the italian). It makes a little more sense for a Grand Tourer M5/M6, Panamera...but the M3 is meant to be driven.

The throttle blips on downshift by the DTC are amazing, but nothing's better than achieving the same with your own two feet.

To each his own...my hope is that BMW and Porsche won't forget about the few of us die-hards still out there.

There is some hope, I think. Manuals are still opted for in 50% (or better) of the BRZ/FR-S, GTI and Mustang, to name a few. GTI is especially interesting to me, as the fantastic DSG is a option.

No maker is dumb enough to turn its back on 50% of it's buyers (except, maybe, for Nissan, who only offers the Maxima, the so-called "four-door sports car" with a CVT).

Well the last bastions of MT > Autos was that MT offers better performance and MPG....that's not true anymore with the new crop of dual clutch trannys.

So now the only "reason" to buy a MT is for the driving experience (and i guess potentially cheaper repairs/maintenance)...and that's a tough sell for a lot of people

That's because the rest of the world associates a manual box with an econobox, while the American market demands it for high end sports models.

Ironically, there are more manual models available here than in many other countries despite the US being the country of automatics. For example the South African lineup historically did not offer a manual in 5 or 6 series. Mercedes - no manuals in 6 cylinders, incl c-class, though the vast majority of sales in SA are manual cars.

no way
Yes, this is the first time a RHD M car outselling a LHD version. I think it is due to more and more Japanese switching to RHD cars.

Wow, they made a lot less E92 M3's than I expected. I thought they would be way up but they are not that many at all.

Purchased 08 e92 m3 6mt new which I recently traded for a 13 e92 m3 m-dct but my daily driver is a manual. I wanted to try the dct and after 5 years I think BMW worked all the bugs out of it.

Incorrect. The manual is offered everywhere BMW sells the M3

Cars sold in the EUSSR count towards corporate CO2 emissions and the manufacturers get fined for an average which exceeds 130(?)gm/km of The Satan Gas.

Therefore, BMW has long been pushing customers towards the DCT/auto versions of their lineup, as these can be optimised for the emissions cycle.

As a result, buying a manual M3 has necessitated a factory order as almost no manual cars were stock-ordered by dealers since 2009. As factory orders tend to cost more (because dealers don't get the same financial incentives as they do with stock-ordered cars) it has been an easy sell to push customers into DCT cars. Quicker delivery too.

Even so, I am surprised to see just 300 post-LCI right hand drive E92s were built. As that covers UK, South Africa, Australia, India, Japan, New Zealand, and maybe some other markets that I forget.

That makes my 6MT Competition Pack E92 even more rare than I realised.

And enjoyable too. Now with F10 M5 gearknob.

Yeah, I see an E90 M3 maybe once a month but E92 M3s everyday. Sometimes 3 times a day. I think we are (SoCal) the largest M market in the US.

I have a feeling the F80 M3 will have similar numbers with a ton of people buying M4s instead.

I just drove a friend's Z06 and absolutely loved rowing through the gears... wow what a feeling!

DCT may be a bit faster on the track but it takes away a lot of the feel, involvement and the enjoyment

ps - I am a DCT owner but now miss having a MT!

Anyone else notice the pre-LCI E90 is 2880 but LCI sales are 3587?
That's a lot of sales considering the LCI M3 was only offered in 2011...

The E90 LCI was introduced in 2009 so the disparity in sales is even more interesting comparing 2880 for 2008 vs 3587 for 2009-2011

Plus I bet a lot of buyers got scared away from ordering DCT the first and second year with all the lag and software problems on the forums with the first release

In defense of the RoW RHD, most countries like India rarely get a manual option - E92/E93 stock cars were all DCT and if you ordered a manual, well it was a 6 month wait. Rarely, does anyone order a car here.

No manuals for any other E series cars (including the Z4) or the new F series cars either. Almost like BMW doesn't want to make/sell manuals anymore.
