Which tires for stock ZCP best performance?
Been reading around the forums to figure out what tires are best for stock zcp replacement. I understand the whole same stagger concept of the 255/35 275/35, but if I'm going to pay to replace the tires, I really want to get it thick and fat in the back. That's my main interest, max traction.
I see success with people using 295/30 which is a nice tires size, plus the PSS's come in that size. I'm thinking of just replacing my rears with PSS 295/30's since it also is a closer stagger to the OEM than 255/35 F. What is the reason people care about increasing the fronts by half an inch anyway? Any other issues with drivability people might see with the 245/35 F, 295/30 R?

My recommendation would be the PSS hands down. If you want to go with the 295/30 then I would do it fast since stock of that tire is extremely low and can go on backorder any day now.

Increasing stagger = increasing understeer.
Understeer sucks. It's always best to match the wheel width to a corresponding tire width. 295's will work on 10" wheels but not as well as they would on 10.5" or 11" wheels. 275's are pretty much perfect for the 10" rear wheels.

I did 275/255 PSS on my Blackchrome ZCP's, PERFECT, i personally wouldn't go any bigger. This was before i cleaned the brand new tires.

Stagger refers to tire width. Decreasing it makes the car have more neutral handling. OEM stagger is 20mm. You are proposing 40 or 50mm which effectively increases grip in the rear relative to the front. When you turn hard into a corner you will have more a propensity for understeer due to the reduction in front grip (relative to the rear). Google understeer.

Having just driven the Yoko AD08R on the street/track in dry/wet I like the breakaway and steering response on those better than PSS. They are firmer over bumps and cracks in the road (not that much worse) but in return you get a tire that responds sharper than the PSS. Around the same wet grip (slightly worse laterally but better on braking and accel). A bit expensive but worth the money IMO.
They run wide so you'll be more than satisfied with 255/275 on your ZCP. Talk to Performance Technic in Pleasanton, they mounted mine up on an E36 track car. |

definitely don't want that. I also was told by a rim repair guy that thicker tires destroy gas mileage. He said a guy with my M3 had super fat tires and they killed his mpg so he's goign back to stock. That makes me think looking good might not be biggest priority and 275's should be good.

Also, based on another post, I'm really liking the idea of 275/30 F, 295/30 R PSS's.

Also running 255/275 on stock ZCP rims. Perfect fitment. Like everyone has said above, 295 is too wide for a 10 inch wheel and your tire will roll on hard turns.

I would also do this if the PSS's came in that size, 285/30. What are you running?

Even though the tire is a shorter tire? Seems like there would be some offset there by the shorter. I'm more worried about goign straight up to 275/35 which will definitely increase roll. The overall diameter of both 285/30 and 295/30 are lower than the 275/35.

Yea, that's true, it is a slightly taller tire, but at 275, it still has just a bit of stretch on the 10 inch rim. I have another car that is running 255/35s on an 8.5 inch rim which is equivalent to 285 on a 10 and you can actually see the edge of the tire shows roll. 295 would be even wider!

Comparing the 3 tire sizes, you'll see that the 285/30 measured rim widtch is dead on 10", matching the ZCP size. Problem is PSS's don't come in that size. Dang, looks like I'm stuck with 275s.

Lol, yea I also wanted to do 285/30 but PSS don't offer that size and I hear it looks a little funny since it's much shorter than stock. while the front is a bit bigger than stock. |

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showpos...94&postcount=6 I'm gonig to be economical and stick with 255/275 combo. If I wear these out next time I'll go with Continential maybe if I find I could use more tread.
