M3 badges no longer avl...

I guess BMW cracked down on people selling aftermarket M3 badges and even seized some inventory from vendors. Anyone know where to get a gloss black M3 badge other than ebay?

Hadn't heard anything about BMW cracking down. Lotta folks mod their M's, and BMW knows this, seems odd they'd start doing something like this now.

Got this from JLEVISW via email

Hi Justin,

We actually no longer carry the M3 badge. We sold out of whatever we had left. BMW has cracked down on their logos being sold, so we are no longer going to be carrying that product.

So I Called Modbargins they said the same thing.

BMW is going after manufactures of the badges right now for infringement. People that thought they were untouchable before because they make crap in China etc. They'll never get them all but people like modbargins and JLevisW have basically lost thier supplier I guess.

can't someone make the same badge as a W not an M?
and we just stick it upside down

kind of like the Will edition M3 that was joked about at the time of the royal wedding

It's easy enough to remove, paint, and reapply your OEM badge. I did that on my first E92 before the aftermarket had them available in the correct size.

This makes no sense. BMW doesn't make or offer the option, so theyre not in competition or losing money. This move really only screws their customers who want to customize their car.
Oh well...screw you BMW...I'll paint my own if it comes down to it.

It's about copyright and trademark infringement.

Yeah, well, unless they plan to offer us the same options themselves, it's also a douchebag move.

iND does good enough work, they could probably paint authentic emblems for customers, or is that too an infringement?

Refinishing an emblem isn't infringment.

I get the feeling this is one of those a**hole legal things that BMW's lawyers do because in the US the law states that you cannot have a trademark unless you defend it, which means they are forced to harass their customers doing something that promotes the brand so that they can maintain their trademark.

Taking the existing badge and painting it is totally fine.

BMW doesn't sell the badge, so any badges out there are being counter-fitted, right? That's infringement.

If they don't sell it, and your car gets damaged, how are you supposed to get a new one?
