I wonder how much of a PITA the retrofit would be??

Would be nice to have a little stash box on the drivers side. EUR gets all the good stuff

You mean the small box just below the light? Strange that doesn't come on all models, what is the space used for then!?

Why do I get the feeling that compartment will do nothing but launch its contents at you under hard acceleration? Reminds me of the old "tollway change compartments" from cars in the 90s...was good for catapulting $2.50 in nickels after the first few miles of painstakingly loading it.

Looks like it is part #15 in this diagram from Real OEM:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=51_9121

Looks like you can order one from ECS Tuning:
http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/Site...1721/ES117637/

I don't see any other trim pieces or hardware associated with it though, so I'm not sure if you'd be able to retrofit it.

Problem with following that DIY as in the link where he dremeled the hole for the compartment; is that his model car has a dash that was made to accept the compartment option - it just didn't have it.

If you look at the pics, he cut the hole in the center of a recessed area on his dash. The recessed area is made to accept the compartment so that once it is installed the door contours recess exactly into the matching recess in the dash so the door is flush.

Our cars don't have this recess (at least my E92 doesn't) the dash is smooth & flush in that area. So even IF there is room behind the dash in that area for the compartment - once you cut the hole you will not have the recess for the door & will not have a nice finished edge. Once you install the compartment it would stick out from the rest of the dash and IMO look like ass...

I think if done properly it can be retrofitted and NOT look like ass...It's a factory option so there must be space for it. That being said, I'm not gonna go dremel into my dash.

Still looking for a pic of the box opened if anyone has one

It's going to look very similar to the photo above. Not sure what else you're looking for.

I think is possible. The compartment is very small.
