2009 with 4 owners?

Hey guys, in my hunt for the perfect used M3, I found this:

2009 black coupe with DCT, 19 inch polished, Tech, Premium, Navi, cold weather, ~33k miles, CPO. Asking 45k.

It has a clean carfax but 4 owners listed. Is this something I should be wary of? It's 3 hours away and if I go, it's to buy....

Honestly, owners don't really matter to me as long as there is no paintwork and it has a clean carfax. My e46M3 had 4 owners and it had 0 issues whatsoever. If it's clean, do it.

Personally speaking, I would keep looking. 4 owners doesn't necessarily mean something sinister, but at the same time, could indicate that the car has a storied history. Also, when you come to sell it, you will be the fifth owner, which might not make it easy to sell.....

Edit: just realized it is CPO, which will give you more peace of mind, but if you are looking for that perfect car, keep looking.

Owners aside, sounds like deal to me..comparable CPO here in Canada is going for nearly 60k.

I am really wary of carfax. A lot of body shops don't even report that damage if you pay it and don't involve insurance.

I agree with both sides (carfax wariness vs CPO peace of mind). Turns out one owner is listed for 6 days. The most recent for 9 months (a bmw tech).

Is it the body shops responsibility?

And I don't think that would be such a wise decision in the case of the owner anyway, suppose i wanted to get my front bumper repainted for rock chips.. why would I want/need the body shop to put that on a report?

I had a car that had an owner for 7 days then 1 month... It was listed as lease owner, then purchase, thenLease again then purchase. Total of 3owners in 3 months...I wrote carfax and complained of incorrect data, they researched and corrected it with no hassle. They determined that the first 3 owners were the same person.. Carfax was corrected the same day too..

I never said it was their responsibility. However, if I buy a car, I want to know if the previous owner had damage more than repainting that was repaired. I mention this because I had a similar issue with my old car. I rear ended a woman who came off a stop light and slammed on her brakes because she thought she saw a cat or some shit. I had the entire bumper replaced and one of the headlights as well because there was a small crack. When it came time to sell the car, it didn't show up on car fax. However, I mentioned this to everyone who inquired about the car. All I am saying is that one should not fully trust a car fax report for such issues.

Why do people even care how many owners a car has had? If its in good shape, hasn't been in a major accident and its the right price who cares? Does the number of owners really affect its value? I've sold a lot of cars "private party" to other individuals over the years and no one has asked me how many previous owners the car has had. Most ask how I kept it so clean and new looking then hand me a wad of cash to buy it on the spot.

It's not the body shop responsibility. Anytime and insurance claim is made on that vehicle it will show up on car fax or car proof.
