Why My ///M3 will be my last ///M3

I am now in my forth ///M3 and made up my mind it will be my last ///M3

You might ask why, well I once loved this car and mind you I still do as long as I will be driving the one I now have. However, once I am ready to change it will no longer be a ///M3 or ///M4 as they will be called since I only drive a coupe as my second car. While I not always agree with Jeramy Clarkson, I do agree what he had to say here at the end of the BMW M135 Review.

The review if you missed it (a good one BTW) can be found here ---> Click here if you have not seen the JC Review

Here is what he said about the ///M Badge and I Quote ...

One thing, though. I do wish BMW would reserve that M badge for cars that have come from its motor sport division, rather than sticking it on anything that’s a bit faster than usual. The M135i may say M on the back. But if you look underneath, there’s no limited-slip diff, so it isn’t an M car, really. Unless the M here stands for marketing.

End of JC Quote ...

I know most of you feel about the same as far as the miss-use of the ///M badge goes ... makes me look (in a few years) at Porsche or Benz for my next toy.

I agree, I have had 2 m3s an e46 and just recently an e92, and I believe it will be my last. The M use to really stand out, now it's on almost every car they make in some shape or form.

My e93 M will be my last BMW as well. I hate the fact that BMW has been whoring out the M badge.

I think this deserves a poll. My inkling is the M2/M3/M4 will impress despite all this hogwash about FI transition being a let down. If the new entry level M cars are going to be lighter, more powerful (torque increase mainly), and more rigid (as many blogs have indicated), I don't see how the new entry level M cars will not impress on the street and track vs. E92. Granted it won't likely have that frenetic F-1 high rev nature any longer, but regardless, it should still be tuned to impress. If BMW still continues producing true M cars as such, I'll still be interested in owning one. M135i comments by JC are well said, but I don't care what other people think they have, I only care what I KNOW I have and that it performs to expectations of a true M car.

Probably moving on to Porsche. M has lost it's touch for it's purists. I'm sure the new cars will be amazing to look at, and fast as well, but the idea of a N54 based I6 with 3 turbos makes me feel like it's a gimick car. Not only that but the 2-door/vert are now called M4's? WTF... I don't want to drive an M4... I want to drive an M3!

I'm not gonna continue to beat this dead horse. Nobody is listening at this point, especially not BMW. I understand it's a business and I'm just gonna have a wait and see attitude until the next gen car is produced. For the record I agree completely with M3RD but will maintain an open mind. BMW is still making some very good cars...for the masses.

+1, a little annoying, but but Mercedes puts AMG all over their non AMG cars, have for years. Porsche is a little differant, but they don't have a "special" division, so not really apples to apples. They did put their Porsche badge on an SUV and a Sedan, and Porschefiles were much more upset about that when it happened that what we see with people complaining about M badges everywhere.

+1
completely agree. At the end of the day its all about making money and as we all know BMW are masters at this. I however agree with the fact that BMW has watered down the significance of what the "M" badge stands for to the "true" automotive enthusiast. The M4 will definately out perform the E9X M3's, but I just don't understand how they are dropping the Iconic M3 name (for the most part). God willing I will be keeping my M3 for a long time and if I ever do upgrade it will be down the P car route.

Agreed.

If its fun to drive and beats the competition, then I dont care what badge BMW slaps on them.

In the end you build what the customer will buy, and if you don't you will be behind. Hell Ferrari makes a four door who would have guessed that. AMG has been watered down for years, and it's still not a good track car. Good luck to find a brand that will not adapt to the changing market place. M is still the performance Audi and Mercedes is still chasing which says something.

Abandoning the car for the misuse of the M badge by BMW seems pretty extreme ..no?

I mean its still a kick ass car..and real enthusiasts know the difference between the fakes and the real thing.

GREAT POINTS, everyone. I still believe when the books are written this current car will be the pinnacle that everyone speaks of. An argument is also made for the E46 M3 as well.

Speaking of fakes, if BMW puts Active Sound in the next M3/4 I'm done completely with the brand.

LOL..I have a feeling even though we may be dealing with turbos..BMWs next M will still sound awesome..maybe some exhaust tuning, different valve porting ..but yeah if it gets that as an option I may hang my head in shame as well..

Ditto. I think they learned a lesson from the M5/6 and will go the Porsche direction and actually route sound through the cabin if necessary.

AMG cars were never really sports cars in my mind. Mercedes in general is more of a GT car company. AMG models were the uber GT models. What's sad is BMW turned into a GT car company as well.

In regards to Porsche case. Sure people were upset about seeing Porsche badges on SUVs and cars, but as long as Porsche make the 911, and more importantly GT3, who cares? I always say this, and I will repeat here. I understand that BMW is a company that is set to make money. But how hard would it be to make 1 or 2 cars that are targeted to enthusiasts?

Soon they're making cars ranging from 1 to 7, and X1 to X6. Among all these models, is it really that hard, that financially impossible to make 1 or 2 reasonably priced, light weight, high revving, relatively stripped out true performance cars? Cars like M3 GTS are retarded. That's not what we need. If I have that much money to spend on a toy, why on earth should I buy a BMW? There is a GT3 RS...
